Chatham – Joyce Leggett, 88, of Chatham, IL passed away at 2:22 P.M. Friday, October 5, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital, Hospice Unit, Springfield, IL surrounded by her loving family.

Joyce was born in Gillespie, IL on April 4, 1930 a daughter to Frank and Lola (Tate) Kaufman.  She married Lynn M. Leggett on January 24, 1948 in Clinton, IL.

Joyce worked at the local Tea houses in the Virden area.  She was a member of the Grace Southern Baptist Church, Virden, IL and she loved spending time with her family, friends and especially her dogs.

Surviving Joyce is her daughter, Victoria (Duane) Leggett-Stewart of Chatham, IL; sons, William David (Debbie) Leggett of Virden, IL, Bradley (Sheila) Leggett of Springfield, IL; sisters, Marlene Robinson of Virden, IL, Sandra Ahlers of Springfield, IL; 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Preceding Joyce in death are her parents; husband, Lynn M. Leggett and sister, Gloria Herron.

There will be no visitation, cremation rites have been accorded by the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL.  There will be a Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M. Virden – Thelma Louise Otten, 99 of Virden, IL, passed away Saturday September 29, 2018 at Heritage Health in Springfield, IL.

Thelma was born December 26, 1918 in Summerville, IL, a daughter of William and Theo (Ryan) Searles. She married Stanley C. Otten April 6, 1940 in Piasa, IL. Thelma was very supportive of her husband Stanley in their farming operation for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Virden, IL, a member of the Farm Bureau and a member of the Order of The Eastern Star for over 50 years.  Thelma enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving Thelma are her two daughters, Mary Kay Prather of Waverly, IL and Barbara A. Bullard of Manchester, MO, a son, Stephen G. (Ann) Otten of Springfield, IL, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Preceding in death were her parents, her husband, Stanley C. Otten and two great grandchildren Logan and Owen Littrell.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday October 2, 2018 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL with funeral services to follow at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Virden– Dr. Susan J. Rohrer, 73 of Virden IL. passed away Tuesday September 25, 2018 at Sunrise Manor Virden IL.

Susan was born April 30, 1945 in Springfield IL. a daughter of Russell Shriver and Margaret (Shumaker) Rohrer. She was a graduate of Virden High School class of 63. Susan was a graduate of the University of Illinois of 73 for doctorate in philology. She was a writer for the News-Gazette Newspaper. Susan was Assistant to dean at the University of Illinois College Medicine- Urbana. She was  Assistant Principal of Virden Junior and Senior High School. Susan was Secretary and Vice president on the Virden School Board. She owned Homecare Superior Vena Cava Syndromoic and co-owner of Capital Foods Inc. Susan was a Director at the Dana Thomas Foundation. She was also the First Female Mayor of Virden IL.

Susan is survived by her family Melissa (Husband: Adam) Marshall, Isabel, Abigail and Caden Marshall all of Virden IL. Her friends Barbra Manning Of Springfield IL, and Bonnie (Husband: Gordon) Allen of Nilwood IL.

There will be no visitation, Cremation Rites accorded by Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden IL. Graveside of Ashes will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 6, 2018 at Virden Cemetery, Rev. St. Petersburg, FL – James Robert Paisley, 49, of St. Petersburg, FL, formerly of Virden, IL passed away at 12:13 A.M. Monday, September 3, 2018 at St. Petersburg General Hospital E.R.

James was born October 31, 1968 in Virden, IL a son to James Lee and Lorene (Wolfe) Paisley.  James joined the Army and served from 1989 to 1991.

Surviving James is his mother, Lorene Paisley; brothers, Elrie Joseph Paisley, Jeffery Todd Paisley and several nieces and nephews.  Preceding James in death is his father, James Lee Paisley; grandparents, Bill and Dorothy Wolfe and George and Martha Paisley.

Cremation rites have been accorded by Abbey Affordable Cremation and Funeral Service, Largo, FL.  A graveside service and interment of ashes will be held at 10:30 A.M. Springfield–Clarence Dean Edwards, 87, formerly of Virden, IL passed away at 11:22 A.M. Friday, September 21, 2018 at Heritage Health, Springfield, IL surrounded by his loving family.

Clarence was born in Virden, IL, a son to Clarence W. and Myrtle Gertrude (Connally) Edwards. He grew up in Virden and graduated from Virden High School in 1948.  He married Joan Ward in 1952 before entering the service.

Clarence served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was a member and attended Thayer United Methodist Church, Thayer, IL.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #386. Clarence went to work for Franklin Life Insurance Company in Springfield, IL where he was a member of DPMA since 1965 and he served as National Legislative Network Director for 6 years.  His passion was working with computer languages and mainframes.  He retired from Franklin Life after 38 years of service in 1987.  He loved to bowl, golf, go to the river boats, read and most of all travel where he proudly said he had visited all 50 states.

Surviving Clarence is his son, Ward William (Joann) Edwards of Springfield, IL; brothers, Darrell and Russell Edwards both of Virden, IL; longtime companion Yvonne Davies; 2 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Preceding Clarence in death are his parents; wife, Joan Edwards and brothers, Robert, John and Don Edwards.

Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL with the Funeral Service starting immediately following the visitation at 2:00 P.M.  Officiating will be Rev. Auburn – Wesley J. Bachman, 81, passed away at 8:33 A.M. Thursday, September 20, 2018 at his residence with his loving family at his side.

Wes was born October 25, 1936 in Peoria, IL a son to Roy J. and Laura M. (Hieser) Bachman.  Wes served in the U.S. Army from October 1958 to September 1960.

Wes graduated from Bradley University in 1969 and later worked for Dickey-john Corporation in Auburn, IL as an Electrical Engineer.  Wes also attended the Cornerstone Community Church in Auburn, IL.

Wes is survived by his wife, Shirley (Albrecht) Bachman of 55 years; sons, Roderick W. (Vonda K.) Bachman of Brighton IL, Samuel J. (Dena L.) Bachman of Brighton, IL; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren (Emily, Graham and AmyDee Bachman; Katelyn Bachman; Josh (Tina) Lahr, Dan (Abbie) Lahr and Rachel Lahr; and a brother Bruce of Lowpoint, IL. Preceding Wes in death are his parents.

Cremation rites have been accorded by the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL.  There will be a Celebration of Life Gathering on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 4:00 – 5:00 P.M. at the Cornerstone Community Church in Auburn, IL with the Memorial Service starting immediately following at 5:00 P.M. at the church.  The family requests no flowers, but memorials can be made to Inner City Mission, P.O. Virden – James B. “Brian” Richardson, 49 of Virden, IL, passed away Tuesday September 18, 2018 at his residence.

Brian was born August 11, 1969 in Centralia, IL a son of James T. and Iona M. (Rigdon) Richardson.  He graduated from Wheeling High School, Wheeling, IL obtained his Masters Degree from the University of Illinois, Springfield, IL. He worked for the University of IL – Springfield in the Office of Admissions and also at Freedom Chevrolet in Virden, IL. He enjoyed golfing with his Dad and Brother and playing cards with his family, friends and his nieces, Raelyn and Kynslee. One of his favorite pass times was spending time with his family, doing yard work and fantasy football.

Brian is survived by his father, James T. Richardson of Virden, IL, brother, Joseph B. “Brad” (Stefanie) Richardson of McHenry, IL, nieces, Raelyn and Kynslee Richardson and his best friend, his dog “Block”. Preceding in death was his mother, Iona M. Richardson.

Litchfield – Edna “Loraine” Bray, 90, of Farmersville, IL, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Litchfield, IL.

Edna Loraine Walkington was born March 12, 1928 in North Otter, Twp., IL to Paul E. and Neva (Hoffman) Walkington. She graduated from Virden Community High School in 1946 and married John Robert ”Bob”Bray on November 13, 1948 in Girard, IL. She was an active member of the Virden United Methodist Church in Virden, IL, where she was a former Sunday School teacher. Loraine worked as a tax preparer and farmed with her husband Bob for over 60 years. Her life’s joys included gardening, crocheting, quilting, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Loraine is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Bray; daughter, Lorna Jean Colecchi; and a brother, Paul Edwin “Eddie” Walkington.

Loraine is survived by her son, Richard D. (June) Bray of Boyce, LA; her daughter, Iva Nadine (David) Hitchings of Raymond, IL; a sister, Mary Agnes Cain of Girard, IL; 3 grandsons, Bret (Allison) Hitchings of Clinton, IL, William Bray of Boyce, LA, Joel Bray of Boyce, LA; 3 granddaughters, Sarah Loraine Hitchings of Louisville, KY, Susan (David) Gradman of Libertyville, IL, Mary Loraine Colecchi of Englewood, CO; 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Virden– Raymond J. Klocke, 79, of Virden, IL passed away at 12:10 AM, Saturday, September 8, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Raymond was born June 22, 1939 in a log cabin in Knox County Missouri, a son of Raymond W. and Maurita (Burkhart) Klocke.  He married Elizabeth “Libby” Woodard on August 16, 1957 in Edina, Missouri.

Raymond was a member of the First Baptist Church in Virden, IL where he served as Moderator and Deacon.  He loved to garden and shared his produce with his friends and neighbors.  Many will remember Raymond for his stories and jokes he told.

Surviving Raymond is his wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Klocke of Virden, IL; daughters, Carol S. (Pat) Woolf of Maryville, TN, Debbie L. Klocke of Aurora, IL, Patricia A. (Scott) Englert of St. Charles, MO, Barbara J. (Tony) Taylor of Alabaster, AL; half-sister, Sharon Kemper of Clayton, IL; half-brothers, Leland and Elvin D. Klocke both of Edina, MO; 5 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Preceding Raymond in death are his parents; step-mother, Buelah (True) Klocke; brother, Bill Klocke and half-sister, Linda Klocke.

Chatham – Daniel Samuelson, 65 of Chatham, IL, passed away Monday August 27, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center Springfield, IL.

Dan was born August 13, 1953 in Kansas City, KS. He was a son of Aden and Juanita (Warren) Samuelson. Dan married Wanda L. Kiel August 12, 1989 in Lee Summit, MO. He was an insurance underwriter for various insurance companies and attended the First Baptist Church in Virden, IL.

Surviving Dan is survived by his wife, Wanda L. of Chatham, IL, a sister Sherry (Larry) Moon of Manhattan, KS and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death was his parents and brother, Dennis Samuelson.
