      Elinor C. Hendricks, 100, Of Virden, died Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 11:35 a.m., at Pleasant Dale Place in Girard.

      She was born Nov. 1, 1913 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Scherer) Heuser. She attended Iowa State Teachers’ College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Elinor married Joseph Hendricks Nov. 28, 1936 in Iowa. They lived in Chicago, Kansas City, Mo. and Virden. In 1948 they moved to Virden and opened the Gambles Store which later became Hendricks Home Furnishings, Virden True Value and Virden Department Store. Joe died July 28, 1962, Elinor and her three sons continued the family business. She retired from the business in 1994 at the age of 80. She also played the organ for St. Catherine’s and Sacred Heart Churches in Virden and St. Patrick’s Church in Girard. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Virden, being named Church Woman of the Year in 2013.

      Elinor is survived by her four children, sons, Jim (Margaret), Joe, Jeff (Judy), all of Virden; and a daughter, Judy (Ken) MacMurdo of Southport, N. C.; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 29, 2014 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL. with the reading of the Rosary at 7:45 P.M.   Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church, Virden, IL with Rev. Fr. George Morelock and Rev. Fr. James Palakudy officiating; organist, Marcella Roseiere. Virden – Patsy J. McKain, 78 of Virden, IL passed away Monday August 25, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice, Springfield, IL.

Patsy was born June 9, 1936 in Greenview, IL a daughter of Arthur Clinton and Vera Fay (Losey) Propst. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Virden, IL where she was an Elder and Deacon.  Patsy was an in home daycare provider for many years. She retired after over 20 years from Fannie May Candy Store in Springfield, IL, and worked as the “Pizza Lady” at the Casey’s General Store in Virden, IL for many years.

Surviving Patsy are her sons, Dan R. McKain of Virden, IL, Douglas R. McKain of Chatham, IL and Dameon R. (fiancé: Regan Harmon) McKain of Virden, IL, daughters, Patricia J. (Robert) Royer of Carrollton, IL and Dondi R. (Mick) Lechner of Virden, IL, 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, brother, Richard Propst of Auburn, IL and sisters Thelma Carnduff of Springfield, IL and Linda (Gene) Pistorious of Kingman, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were her parents and brother, Ronald Propst.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Noon Friday August 29, 2014 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL. Pastor Sue Sawers officiating. Burial will be in Virden Cemetery. Roy was born December 25, 1957 in Montrose, CO a son of Clinton and Barbara (Curnew) Impson. He married Judith L. “Judy” Theel-Keller July 28, 2010 in Girard, IL. Roy was a heavy equipment operator working out of the IUOE Union Local # 965 in Springfield, IL.

Surviving Roy is his wife Judy Keller-Impson of Girard, IL a son, Clinton Impson of Grand Junction, CO, a step-son, Geoffrey Keller of Virden, IL, step-daughters, Stephany (Brennan) Vice of Morgan City, LA, Candy Watson of Daphne, AL, Crystale Kohart of Girard, IL and Anita Keller of Daphne, AL; brothers, Donald Impson of Austin, TX and Clinton “Chick” Impson of Montrose, CO; sisters, Dorothy Impson-Kimball-Gonzalez of Colorado Springs, CO and Roshella Impson-Pell of PA; several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins and his four legged friends, Lady and Tramp.

Jean was born Oct. 11, 1930 in Springfield, IL the daughter of Norman & Mildred (Williams) Drendel. She married Edward A. Williams on Nov. 28, 1948 in Springfield, IL. Jean was a member of Thayer United Methodist Church, Thayer, IL and formerly worked as a bookkeeper and checker for the IGA grocery stores in Virden and Auburn, IL. She later worked as a bookkeeper for Macoupin Services and after retiring she was an Avon Representative for many years.

Surviving Jean is her special friend Carl Renken of Auburn, IL, her sons, Gary (Amy) Williams of Riverton, IL, and Tony Williams of Auburn, IL, daughters, Sherry (Leonard) Miner of Rochester, IL, Pat (Wayne) Ladage of Virden, IL, Rose (Charles) McDonald of Glenarm, IL, Roxy (Tim) Seifert of Auburn, IL, and Jenny (Scott) Fenn of Henderson, NV, 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Preceding Jean in death was her husband Edward A. Williams, sons, T.J. and David Williams.

Visitation for Jean will be from 9:30 a.m. to service time at 11:30 a.m. Monday August 4, 2014 at the Thayer United Methodist Church, Thayer, IL. Rev. Charles Kurfman officiating. Palmyra– Hilda F. Pitchford, 92 of Carlinville, IL, passed away Wednesday July 30, 2014 at Carlinville Rehab and Health Care Center Carlinville, IL.

Hilda was born January 22, 1922 in Green County, IL a daughter of Lee and Mary (Short) King. She married Gilbert Pitchford March 9, 1941 in St. Charles, MO. Hilda was a homemaker.

Surviving Hilda are three grandchildren, Mike (Marcia) Pitchford of Palmyra, IL, Will (Sherry) Pitchford of Carlinville, IL, and Patrick (Stacey) Pitchford of Chesterfield, IL, 5 great grandchildren. Preceding Hilda in death was her husband Gilbert Pitchford her son, Gilbert J. Pitchford, brothers Carl and Houston King, sisters, Connie Salmons, Fay Eden, Vada Thomae, Margaret and Leda Miller.

There will be no visitation for Hilda. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday August 2, 2014 at Girard Cemetery, Girard, IL. Rev. John Huxtable officiating. Virden – Vernon L. Smith 93 of Virden, IL passed away Tuesday July 15, 2014 at Pleasant Hill Village, Girard, IL.

Vern was born March 27, 1921 in Virden, IL a son of Everett E. and Mabel (Brantley) Smith. He was a 1939 graduate of Virden High School and served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the South Pacific. He married Ellen L. Schroder on April 17, 1942 in Carlinville, IL. Vern owned and operated Smith-Brown Insurance Agency in Virden, IL for many years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Virden the Virden American Legion Post # 386, the Virden Masonic Lodge # 161 A.F. & A.M., served on the Virden City Council, the Virden cemetery board and was an avid Cardinal fan.

Surviving Vern is his sons Roger L. (Yvonne) Smith of Broomfield, CO and Gregory L. (Sharon) Smith of Springfield, IL, six grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a sister Dorothy Berry of Virden, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death was his wife Ellen Smith and his brother Everett E. Smith Jr.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday July 18, 2014 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL with funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Shammy was born Sept. 18, 1936 in Thayer, IL a son of William and Madeline (Heinish) Whalen. He married Sherry L. Short April 13, 1968 in Virden, IL. He was a U.S. veteran and retired after 30 years working out of Laborers Union Local # 477, Springfield, IL. After retirement he owned and operated Daltyn Trucking for many years.

Surviving Shammy are his sons, Scott (fiancé: Stacie McDuffee) Whalen of Thayer, IL, Shawn (Monica) Whalen, Virden, IL and Shane (companion: Stephanie Seabolt) Whalen of Thayer, IL; 4 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Preceding Shammy in death were his parents, wife Sherry L. Whalen, infant daughter, Shannon Whalen, sisters Wilma Evers and Beatrice Grigsby.

Celebration of Life Gathering will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday July 10, 2014 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL.
