Girard- Marguerite C. Green 103, passed away on July 13, 2018 at 10:08 pm in Girard IL.

Marguerite was born June 7, 1915 in Chicago IL.  She is preceeded in death by her parents Nicholas and Emma (Voege) Green, brothers Arte & Richard and sister Evelyn.

Marguerite has left behind many nephews and nieces and good friends that loved her dearly.

Marguerite lived most of her life in Chicago and Surrounding suburbs.

She retired from Kemper Insurance and spent much of her retirement traveling and dining out with her many friends.

She loved knitting, needle point, chocolates and telling great jokes.

 

There will be no visitation, cremation rites have been accorded by the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home in Virden, IL.  Memorial service will take place at a later date.

Virden – Wanda Elaine Hein, 92, of Virden, IL passed away at 10:50 A.M. Sunday, July 15, 2018 at her residence.

Wanda was born February 3, 1926 in Springfield, IL a daughter to Henry M. and Beatrice (Dawson) Peterson. She was a 1944 Graduate of Virden High School and married John E. Hein on Nov. 10, 1948 in Virden, IL.

Wanda worked for Hendrick’s Home Furnishings Store for over 34 years as an office clerk.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Virden, IL. After retirement she loved to garden, made shirts and dresses for children in Africa, made bandages for use in Africa and loved to spend time with her family and she was an active member of the Eastern Star.

Surviving Wanda are her daughters, Shelley (Jim) Marsaglia of Girard, IL, Kris (Tom) Cervellone of Springfield, IL, Gretchen Henry of Milwaukee, WI; sisters, Vivian Kirkevold of Chugiak, AK, Cynthia Keirs of Lynchburg, VA; 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, John E. Hein; brother, Wilbur Peterson and daughter, Nickie Maynerich; son-in-law, Frank Maynerich and grandson, Paul Maynerich.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, July 20, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, Virden, IL. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 21, 2018 with an hour visitation prior to the service time also at the First Baptist Church, Virden, IL with Rev. Virden – Norma Jean Hotarek, 92, of Virden, IL passed away at 1:50 P.M. Thursday, July 12, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Virden, IL.

Norma was born in Lowder, IL on June 11, 1926 a daughter to Hersel Hobart and Pauline Leah (Stults) Bivin.  She married Anton Hotarek on March 23, 1946.

Norma was a member of the First Baptist Church, Virden, IL where she also served as a Deaconess.  She was a loving housewife and loved spending time with her family.

Surviving Norma is her son, James (Lynda) Anton Hotarek of Girard, IL; daughters, Sharon Marie (Lonnie) Crawford and Beverly Kay Britenstine both of Virden, IL; brothers, Larry (Sandy) Bivin of Modesto, IL, Harvey (Nancy) Bivin of Palmyra, IL; sister, Joyce Walk of Girard, IL, 2 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Norma in death are her parents, husband, Anton Hotarek; sisters, Fayne Quarton, Joan Thursby and Helen Smith.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Litchfield – Edith E. Hazelwood, 97, of Litchfield, formerly of Girard, IL, passed away at 3:29 A.M. Sunday, July 8, 2018 at her daughter Nancy’s residence surrounded by her loving family

Edith was born on February 3,1921 in Sorento, IL a daughter to Edward F. and Martha G. (Michaels) Grigg.  She worked as a waitress before marrying William Milton Hazelwood on August 18, 1946 in Virden, IL.

Edith was a member of the Nilwood Baptist Church, along with her husband, for over 60 years and recently a member of the New Hope Baptist Church for the past few years.  She loved to do word search puzzles and was involved in numerous women’s church mission groups.  She also taught Sunday School for many years.  Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family.

Surviving Edith is her son, Paul Warren (April) Hazelwood of Wichita, KS; daughters, Joyce Colclasure of Bloomington, IL, Bonnie Hazelwood of Elgin, IL, Nancy Shade of Litchfield, IL, Sharon (Dewey) Thoms of Denham Springs, LA; sister, Vanita Beck of Rossville, GA, 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, William Milton Hazelwood; brothers, Laurel and Ralph Grigg; sisters, Cora Redding and Loreen Blevins and son-in-law, John Shade.

Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. Virden – Bobbie L. McAllister, 78, of ‘Virden, IL passed away at 6:44 P.M. Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Bobbie was born on November 6, 1939 in Chatham, IL a son to Alfred R. & Anna (Smith) McAllister.  Bobbie served in the U.S. Army and later married Marilyn Kohart on February 1, 2002 in Carlinville, IL.

Bobbie played in a local band called, “Desperados.” He also was an avid fisherman, loved to work on lawn mowers and was a St. Louis Cardinal fan.  Bobbie drove several years over the road for Coxx Transportation and for Schneider Transportation and later drove locally for Curry Ice and Coal Trucking for many years.  Bobbie was caretaker of Virden Recreation Center, the Tank, for many years and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving Bobbie is his wife, Marilyn McAllister of Virden, IL; sons, Bobbie (Dani) McAllister of Virden, IL, Chris (Rachel McGown) McAllister of Virden, IL; daughters, Peggy (Mike) Childress of FL, Cindy (Gordon Buzzell) McAllister of MI, Melissa (Samuel) Thomas of Plymouth, IL; brother, Fred (Dianne) McAllister of Springfield, IL; step children, Wayne (Sydney) Lomelino, Kevin Lomelino, Terry Kohart, Tina Kohart, Patty Cox, Annette Lomelino; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Robert and Allen McAllister; daughter, Connie McAllister; brother, Jim McAllister and sister, Joann McAllister.

There will be no visitation, cremations rites have been accorded by the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home in Virden, IL. Tovey – Donald “Dwayne” Allen, 86 of Tovey, IL, passed away Thursday July 5, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Dwayne was born April 1, 1932 in Edinburg, IL, a son of Byford and Alberta (Abel) Allen. He was a 1950 graduate of Edinburg High School and served in the U.S. Navy. Dwayne married Barbara Calvert January 1, 1953 in Sharpsburg, IL and after Barb’s passing he married Dorothy Lisse Dec. 7, 1975 in Kincaid, IL. He worked for many years at the Georgia Pacific Paper Co. in Taylorville, IL, retiring as Assistant Plant Manager. Dwayne was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid, IL, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a former Trustee for the Village of Tovey and was an avid Cardinal Fan, fisherman and gardener.

Dwayne is survived by his daughter, Gayla A. (Bill) Ferry of Virden, IL, grandchildren, Eric A. (significant other; Kimberly Liles) Ferry, Heather A. (Nate) White and Stephanie L. (Matt) Thompson, 6 great grandchildren, 1 step-great grandchild, sisters, Marilyn (Clifford) Oller and Wilma (Buddy) Daniels of Edinburg, IL, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Preceding in death were his parents, wives, Barbara Allen and Dorothy Lisse and a brother Larry
Allen.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday July 8, 2018 at Masterson Funeral Home Kincaid, IL with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Father Chris officiating. Carlinville – Betty L. Smith 85 of Carlinville, IL, formerly of Virden, IL passed away Sunday June 24, 2018 at Heritage Manor Carlinville, IL. Surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born November 18, 1932 in Carlinville, IL, a daughter of Gilbert O. and Eva E. (Bivin) Morehead. She graduated from Girard High School in 1950 and was a member of the First Christian Church in Virden, IL. Betty owned and operated Pampered Poodle for over 27 years retiring in 1998.

Betty is survived by her husband, John W. Smith of Carlinville, IL, a daughter Brenda M. (companion: David Gatschenburger) Smith of Mountain Grove, MO, and a son Bradley E. (Sandy) Smith of Carlinville, IL, 4 grandchildren, Robert and Aaron Smith and Gregory and Lindsey Butler, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death was her parents and a brother, Marvin Morehead.

Springfield – Deborah A. Dolbeare, 77, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Chatham, IL passed away Saturday June 16, 2018 at Heritage Manor in Springfield, IL, surrounded by her loved ones.

Deborah was born May 30,1941 in Macomb, IL, a daughter of Garland and Betty (Easton) Rigg. She married Benjamin L. Dolbeare June 11, 1961 in Springfield, IL. Deborah was the former President of Lincolnland Faculty Wife’s Association and took great joy in spending time and being involved with her family.

Deborah is survived by her husband, Benjamin L. Dolbeare of Springfield, IL, daughters, Elizabeth A. (Steve) Hopkins of Athens, IL, and Amy R. Dolbeare of Colorado Springs, CO, a son, Kevin B. (Kristine) Dolbeare of Semmes, AL, and 5 grandchildren. Preceding in death were her parents.

Thayer- Wilma Jean Jorgensen, 97, of Girard, IL formerly of Thayer, IL passed away at 7:50 A.M. Friday, June 15, 2018 at Pleasant Hill Village, Girard, IL surrounded by her loving family.

Wilma was born May 7, 1921 in Riverton, IL a daughter to William S. & Augusta (Warren) Cole.  She married Elmer William Jorgensen on July 1, 1940 in Bowling Green, MO.

Wilma was a member of Thayer United Methodist Church in Thayer, IL where she was active with the Church Sunday School. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout Brownie leader, an Election Judge and one of her favorite pastimes was taking tickets at the Illinois State Fair.

Surviving Wilma are her sons, Robert E. (Hazel) Jorgensen of Decatur, IL, Alan L. “AJ” (Michelle) Jorgensen of Virden, IL; daughter, Sandra J. (Bob) Grooms Thayer, IL; sister, Edna Davis of Kincaid, IL; 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elmer William Jorgensen; daughter, Gloria F. Tapp, brothers, George, Jack and Donald Cole and sisters, Anna Mae Burnett, Vallie Coy, Nellie Shellhammer, Barbara Coleman and Marilyn Cole.

Virden-Betty Jane Heyworth, 95, of Virden, IL passed away Tuesday January 23, 2018 at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Virden.

Betty was born July 16, 1922 in Virden, IL the daughter of John and Rebecca Scott Ewbank. She was a 1940 graduate of Virden High School. Betty loved playing baseball and was shortstop for the Virden Women’s Baseball team. During WWII, she worked at the Illiopolis Ordnance Plant. Later in life, she worked part-time with her good friend, Ruth Rishel at Smith’s Dress Shop.

Betty married Edward Heyworth August 1, 1946 in Carlinville, IL. She was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Virden. She was a volunteer at the Virden Public Library and was a former board member of the Grand Prairie of the West Library in Virden.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Kathleen A. (Kathy Herrick) of Springfield and her son, Marshall Scott (Angela) Heyworth of Madison, WI. She has three grandchildren, Alexander of Milwaukee, Nikolas and Annika of Madison. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Edward Heyworth, a sister, Lydia Ewbank and a brother, Jack Ewbank.

Cremation rites have been accorded by Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL. There will be a Celebration of Life Gathering from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday June 16, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church in Virden, with a Celebration of Life Service at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial of ashes will be in the Virden Cemetery.
