Burnsville, MN – Vivian “Eileen” Green 94 of Burnsville, MN formerly of Girard and Springfield, IL, passed away Thursday January 19, 2017 at Ebenezer Ridge Nursing Home in Burnsville, MN.

Eileen was born October 22, 1922 in Girard, IL a daughter of Ernest and Bessie (Smithson) Riffey. She earned her nursing degree from DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in September 1945 and in May of 1976 earned her Bachelor of Science from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, IL. Eileen married Harold Glen Green December 28, 1948 in Piggott, AR. Eileen formerly worked as a school nurse for the Springfield School District No.186 in Springfield, IL and the Board of Education of the Springfield Public School District No. 186 for 18 years retiring in June 1983.

Eileen is survived by her daughter, Sandra E. (Jeff) Green-Nielsen and her son Harold Ray Green both of Burnsville, MN, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, brother, Lowell Raymond “Ray” Riffey of Carlinville, IL, sisters, Ellen Kay “Kay” Torrens of Bloomington, IL, Cheryl Ann (Mike) Huddle of Peoria, IL, Martha “Marti” Faye (Larry) Bingham of Vandalia, IL, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceeding in death were her parents, husband, Harold Glen Green and sister-in-law Edna Eileen Riffey.

Springfield – Lamira M. Riffey, 87 of Springfield, IL formerly of Virden, IL passed away at her residence Saturday January 21, 2017.

Lamira was born March 8, 1929 in Nilwood, IL a daughter of Nelson and Etta (Grigg) Fouts. She was a 1946 graduate of Virden High School and married John Warren “Cotton” Riffey September 10, 1949 in Nilwood, IL. Lamira was a member of Springfield Southern Baptist Church in Springfield, IL. and formerly worked at Horace Mann Insurance Company for 15 years as an actuarial clerk. Life member of the Military Order of the Purple Auxiliary.

Surviving Lamira is her daughter Janet E. Elliott of Virden, IL, her son, Darrell E. (Sharon) Riffey of Springfield, IL., 1 step-grandson and 3 step great grandchildren, a sister, Linda M. (Bob) Pitchers of Pontoon Beach, IL, a brother, Leo M. (Margie) Fouts of Virden, IL and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding in death was her husband Warren “Cotton” Riffey, son-in-law Carl Elliott, sister, Lyda M. Cowell and brothers, Lester and Loren Fouts

Frank Maynerich Sr.

Thayer–Frank Maynerich, 95, of Thayer, IL passed away at 1:05 P.M. Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield, Illinois.

Frank was born on June 5, 1921 in Thayer, IL a son to Luke and Anna (Sokach) Maynerich.  Frank was a 1939 graduate of Virden High School.  Frank married Agnes B. Morelock on May 10, 1947 in Virden, IL.

Frank served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was assigned to the 42nd Rainbow Division Headquarters Battery.  His unit was responsible for liberating 32,000 prisoners at Dachau, Germany.  Frank worked for Fiat-Allis Mfg. in Springfield, IL for over 38 years as a store keeper retiring in 1983.  He was a third degree member of the Virden Knights of Columbus Council #2321 and former Assistant Fire Chief of Thayer Virden Fire Protection District.  Frank was an avid vegetable gardener and loved to make wine.

Surviving Frank are his sons, Joseph L. Maynerich of Thayer, IL, George Maynerich of Athens, IL, Deacon Greg (Debra) Maynerich of Auburn, IL; daughters, Patsy A. Allen of Thayer, IL, Theresa (Chuck) Sharp of Auburn, IL; sisters, Irene Vicich of Chicago, IL, Mary O’Brien of Thayer, IL; 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins.  Preceding Frank in death are his parents; wife, Agnes Maynerich; son, Frank Maynerich Jr.; grandson, Paul Maynerich; great granddaughter, Addison Sharp; brothers, Louis and Michael Maynerich; infant brother, Steve Maynerich and sisters, Margaret Blauvelt and Ann Schuster.

Visitation will be from 4:15 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church, Virden, IL with a Prayer Service at 4:00 P.M.  Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Springfield – Donald D. Tate, 63, of Springfield, IL formerly of Palmyra, IL passed away at 3:20 P.M. Monday, January 16, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Don was born April 17, 1953 in Springfield, IL as son to Donald W. & Donna Joann (Richardson) Tate.  He was a 1971 graduate of Virden High School, Virden, IL.

Don was a member of the NRA National Rifle Association, NWTF National Wild Turkey Federation, White Tails Unlimited, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local #916 of Springfield, IL, and Hicks Crappie Club. Don formerly worked at Frye Williamson Press in Springfield, IL as a truck driver and was the Auburn police dispatcher for many years.

Surviving Don are his sons, Anthony D. (Angie) Tate of Girard, IL, William A. “Billy” (Fancy) Tate of Glenwood, IA; brothers, Chris (Dawn) Tate of Plainview, IL, Kenny (Jean Ann) Tate of Girard, IL; sisters, Patty (Gary) Kincaid of Palmyra, IL, Penny Whalen of Girard, IL, Renee (Chuck) Hill of Jacksonville, IL; girlfriend, Billie Strickland of Springfield, IL; 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Donald is preceded in death by his parents; son Michael Wayne Tate and infant sister, Connie Tate.=

Farmersville – Kenneth D. “Kenny” Callarman, 75 of Farmersville, IL formerly of Virden, IL passed away Sunday January 15, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Kenny was born May 9, 1941 in Springfield, IL a son of Wayne and Mildred (McClannahan) Callarman. He attended Lanphier and Rochester High Schools and graduated from high school in Tacoma, WA. Kenny served in the US Army from 1958 to 1963 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked for many years as an appliance repair technician for Sears in Springfield, IL and also as a carpenter and handyman. Kenny married Laura June “Laurie” Abbott May 11, 1996 in Springfield, IL. He was an avid gardener and worked in the church garden and volunteered at the Virden food pantry.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Laura June “Laurie” Callarman of Farmersville, IL, 2 sons, Jacob Nolan Callarman and Adam Lee Callarman both of Farmersville, IL, brothers, Ron (Jeris) Callarman of Cantrall and Terry (Eileen) Callarman. Preceeding in death were his parents and sister, Janice Callarman.

Cremation rites are being accorded by Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL. There will be graveside of ashes at 2:00 p.m. Thursday January 19, 2017 at Camp Butler National Cemetery Springfield, IL, Rev. Jimmy Hammond officiating and where full military honors will be accorded. There will be a Celebration of Life Gathering on Saturday January 21, 2017 from Noon to 1:00 p.m. at Grace Southern Baptist Church in Virden, IL with a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Helen was born June 7, 1927 in Pennfield, IL a daughter of Frank and Maude (Rollins) Cook. She married Albert “Tiny” Grider December 31, 1949 in Springfield, IL. Helen attended the United Pentecostal Church of Virden and served as a nurse’s aide at several area nursing facilities and worked diligently for many years at Sunrise Manor in Virden, IL.=

Surviving Helen is her daughter, Helen Louise Alexander Urbonas of Bloomington, IL, sons, James Curtis (Barbara) Alexander of Gravois Mills, MO and Albert S. (Brenda) Grider of Virden, IL, 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, a sister Edna Wilson Holly of Ocala, FL, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding in death were her parents and step-father, Harold Wilson, husband Albert “Tiny” Grider, brothers Wilbur F. Cook and Marion Wilson, sisters, Altha Ruble, Pearl “Peg” McCurdy, Ruthie Johnson and Mary Wilson.

Virden – Juanita L. Ringer, 84, of Virden, IL passed away at 5:20 A.M. Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village, Springfield, IL.

Juanita was born May 1, 1932 in Franklin, IL a daughter to Charles E. & Mildred Edna (Brown) Roberts.  She married Martin Ringer Jr. on September 15, 1956 in Springfield, IL.

Juanita attended Springfield High School and was a member of the Virden Methodist Church. She worked for Sangamo Electric in the mid 1950’s, then worked alongside her husband on the farm. She also owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store in Virden, IL from 1981 to 1988, then worked with her sister at Kimmswick Corner in Missouri to 2004.

Surviving Juanita is her son, James E. (Deborah) Ringer of Virden, IL; daughter, Rebecca L. (Terry) Hamrick of Virden, IL; sisters, Linda Roberts of Springfield, IL, Shirley (Rick) Berving of Barnhart, MO; grandchildren, Neil (Whitney) Ringer, Anna (Josh) Seago, Stuart (fiancé, Maria Sdonas) Ringer; 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Martin Ringer Jr. and brother, Donald Roberts.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon, Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home in Virden, IL with the Funeral Service starting immediately following the visitation at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Robert Funk officiating.  Pallbearers are:  Neil Ringer, Stuart Ringer, Josh Seago, Terry Hamrick, Brian Innis and Mike Reichart.  Interment will be in the Virden Cemetery, Virden, IL.   Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
