 Virden – Fred Raymond Mayer, 87, of Virden, IL passed away at 3:22 P.M. Thursday, May 19, 2016 at St. John’s Hospice, Springfield, IL.

Fred was born in Virden, IL on February 21, 1929 a son to Fred N. & Lelah (Huffmaster) Mayer.  Fred married Margaret Alice (Philippi) Mayer on February 1, 1950 in Virden, IL.

Fred graduated from Virden High School, Class of 1947.  He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a Clerk and as Assistant Post Master at the Virden Post Office and retired in 1984.  Fred was also a member of the Virden Masonic Lodge #161 A.F. & A.M. and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Virden, IL. Fred was a family man spending his time with his family.

Surviving Fred is his wife, Margaret Alice Mayer; daughters, Ellen (J.D.) Howell of Evansville, IN, Connie (Will) Mayer-DeRuve of Albany, NY; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  Preceding Fred in death are his parents and grand parents.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 also at the funeral home with the Rev. Mary Alice Cunningham officiating.  Pallbearers: Greg Reichert, Michael DeRuve, J.D. Flowery Branch, GA.- Michael McIlwrath 58 of Flowery Branch, Ga passed away Wednesday May 4, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center Springfield, IL.

Mike was born May 1, 1958 in Paterson, N.J. a son to William and Jean (Kazmareck) McIlwrath. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1979 to 1983. Mike was a correctional officer for 18 years with the Georgia Dept. of Corrections. He married Rhonda Stratton June 26, 2001 in Gainesville, GA.

Surviving Mike is his wife Rhonda McIlwrath of Flowery Branch, GA., step-daughter Cindy (Dan) Crawford of Brooklyn Park, MN, step-son, Michael (Rebecca) Callahan of Frisco, TX, 3 grandsons, his mother, Jean Keefer of Wayne, N.J. and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death was his father, William McIlwrath and brother, Nick McIlwrath.

There will be no services. Cremation rites will be accorded by Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Girard, IL. Burial of Ashes will be at a later date. Pawnee – Carissa A. Cundiff, 31, of Pawnee, IL formerly of Girard, IL. passed away Thursday April 21, 2016 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Carissa was born October 14, 1984 in Springfield, IL a daughter to Gordon E. and Karon F. (Arnold) Morrow. She was a 2003 graduate of Girard High School and was working for Magro’s Meat and Produce in Springfield, IL.  Carissa married Timothy J. Cundiff October 11, 2014 in Jacksonville, IL.

Carissa is survived by her husband, Tim Cundiff of Pawnee and her daughter Hazel A. Cundiff of Pawnee, IL, mother Karon F. (Duston) Traylor of Girard, IL, brothers, Shaun D. and Eric A. Traylor both of Girard, IL, a sister Jacqueline Morrow of Dawson, IL, step-mother, Ellen (John) Perry of Dawson, IL, grandmother, Clara Arnold of Chatham, IL and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceding in death were her father Gordon E. Morrow and uncle Craig Arnold.

Fern was born February 5, 1925 in Palmyra, IL a daughter to Ernest and Annie (Bettis) Hartsook. She attended Rural United Methodist Church in Carlinville, IL. Fern worked as a waitress for many years at Showtime Café in Virden, IL and retired after working at the Plaza Restaurant in Carlinville, IL.

Fern is survived by her daughter, Mary J. (Jim) Hutchinson of Virden, IL, sons, Robert E. (Grace) Monts of Carlinville, IL and James E. (Susan) Monts of Manvel, TX, brother, Harold Hartsook of Carlinville, IL, 20 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were her parents, husband, James R. Monts, sons, Billy D. and Richard A. Monts and brothers, Wayne and Edwin Hartsook.

Virden – Patricia J. (Lenihan) Donnellan, 75 of Virden, IL passed away Tuesday April 5, 2016 at her home.

Patricia was born March 9, 1941 in Chicago, IL a daughter to Michael J. and Gladys (Leonard) Lenihan. She married Robert J. Donnellan on July 24, 1990 in Carlinville, IL.  Patricia formerly worked as a dispatcher for the Virden Police Department and Long Reality near Chicago, IL. She loved gardening, puzzles, cooking, reading, old movies and especially her cat Sunshine (aka Bubba).

Patricia is survived by her husband Robert Donnellan of Virden, IL, son, Michael M.(Nancy) Lenihan of Palatine, IL, sister, Grace Ruemmele of Sarasota, FL, brother, James (Jan) Lenihan of Des Plaines, IL, numerous beloved nieces and nephews, step-sons, Dennis (Barbara) Donnellan of Bristol, IL, James (Peg) Donnellan of Frankfort, IL and Tim (Michele) Donnellan of Palm Harbor, FL and 8 step-grandchildren. Preceding in death were her parents, sister, Gladys Canino, brother, Charles Lenihan and step-son, Thomas Donnellan.

Girard –  Raymond E. “Crazy” Stansberry, 71 of Girard, IL passed away Thursday April 7, 2016 at his home.

Ray was born February 3, 1945 in Decatur, IL a son to Dewey M. and Mildred L. (Hodges) Stansberry. He married Karen D. Wallace May 5, 1965 in Virden, IL. Ray was a U.S. Army veteran serving during Vietnam. He formerly worked at Fiat-Allis in Springfield, IL and retired after 25 years from Freeman Crown II. Ray was a member of the U.M.W.A. Local # 1969 in Springfield, IL, Virden American Legion Post # 386, a lifetime member of AmVets and the Virden Masonic Lodge # 161 A.F & A.M. Avid Cardinal and NASCAR fan and enjoyed golfing in the winter in Florida.

Surviving Ray is his wife, Karen D. Stansberry of Girard, IL, sister, Linda C. (David) Crawford of Girard, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were his parents.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday April 11, 2016 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL with masonic services at 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m.Tuesday April 12 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL, were military rites will be accorded. Virden – Clifford R. “Cliff” Kirby, 66 of Virden, IL, passed Wednesday April 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Cliff was born January 31, 1950 in Carlinville, IL a son to George F. and Mary L. (Woodruff) Kirby Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He retired as a machinist for Henry Technology in Chatham. Cliff was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving Cliff is his daughters, Brittany D. (Collin) Miller of Gulfport, MS and Christina Lance of Girard, IL, a granddaughter Sadie A. Miller of Gulfport, MS, sisters, Brenda (Ronnie) Moore of Brandenburg, KY and Sharon Lake of Auburn, IL, brothers, Jerry (Dee) Harris of Virden, IL and Mark (Nancee) Kirby of Auburn, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding death were his parents and a brother, George F. Kirby Jr.

There will be a Celebration of Life from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Saturday April 16, 2016 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL with a Memorial Services at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
