Addison was born Sunday, April 12, 2015 in Springfield, IL. She is survived by her parents Eddie and Jessica Hamilton of Girard, IL, sisters; Hayleigh A. Hamilton and Natalie N. Hamilton both of Girard, IL; Fraternal Grandparents; Georgia Hamilton of Auburn, IL, James & Betty Hamilton, Springfield, IL; Maternal Grandparents; Jeff Wonaroski of Girard, IL and Lynda and Kyle Hood of Girard, IL, Great Grandparents; Loretta Flowers of Kincaid, IL, Ray & Shirley Wonaroski of Virden, IL and Harold & Ruth Anne Sanders of Virden, IL and several Aunts and Uncles.

Thayer-Lena J. Hampton, 81, of Thayer, IL passed away at 2:10 P.M. Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Lena was born March 21, 1934 in Gillespie, IL a daughter to Charles and Myrna (Cleeton) Palmer. She later married Charles E. Hampton on December 31, 1955 in Carlinville, IL.

Surviving Lena is her husband, Charles E. Hampton of Thayer, IL; sons, Edward L. (Dixie) Hampton of Girard, IL, Kevin C. (Becky) Hampton of Waverly, IL, Timothy P. (Nell) Hampton of Pleasant Plains, IL, Ricky D. (Roxanne) Hampton of Ashland, IL; daughters, Loretta F. Lucassen of Thayer, IL, Lisa M. Lackey of Farmersville, IL; brothers, Richard Palmer of Virden, IL, Samuel Palmer of Gillespie, IL; sisters, Dorothy Hubbard of Encinitas, CA, Arline Hopper of Gillespie, IL, Lorraine Bivin of Springfield, IL; 15 grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Lena in death is a brother, Albert Palmer; sisters, Bernice Thomas, Eva Palmer, Pauline Coatney and Gloria Moyer.

Loren N. Fouts

Virden – Loren N. Fouts, 87 of Virden, IL passed away Wednesday April 1, 2015 at St. John’s Hospital Springfield, IL.

Loren was born September 18, 1927 in Nilwood, IL a son of Nelson and Etta (Grigg) Fouts. He graduated from Virden High School in 1945 and married Yoshiko Oshiro August 1, 1957 in Okinawa, Japan. He received a bachelor’s degree in education from Sangamon State University.  Loren was a charter member of Grace Southern Baptist Church Virden, IL and served as Sunday School Superintendent for 20 years. After 20 years of military service, first with the U.S. Navy and then retiring from the U.S. Air Force, Loren served in WW II, Korea and Viet Nam. He coached girls softball and basketball and taught for the Virden School District, retiring after 20 years.  He was a member of the Virden American Legion Post #386.

Surviving Loren are his daughters, Rev. Deborah K. (Yun) Chiu of Springfield, IL and Nancy F. (William) Evans of High Ridge, MO, sons, Shigeo O. (Cindy) Fouts of Terre Haute, IN, Wayne O. (Carol) Fouts, Steven L. (Lisa) Fouts both of Girard, IL and Loren N. (Renate) Fouts of Virden, IL, 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, sisters, Lamira Riffey of Springfield, IL and Linda (Robert) Pitchers of Pontoon Beach, IL, brother, Leo “Foozy” (Margie) Fouts of Virden, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were his wife, Yoshiko Fouts, sister Lyda Cowell, brothers, Lester and Lawrence Fouts, and grandchild Austin.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at the Grace Southern Baptist Church, Virden, IL and one hour prior to services at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the church. Rev. Jimmy Hammond, Rev. Dan Pitchers and Pastor David Pitchers officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are nephews Lester Fouts and Larry Lester. Pallbearers are grandsons Adam, David, Christopher and Kyle Fouts, Adam Hampleman, Glenn Scherer, PO2 Christopher Asmar and Matthew Morgan. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, IL. Girard-Ruth V. Royer, 99, formerly of Virden, passed away at 5:42 P.M. Friday, March 27, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.

Ruth was born December 11, 1915 in Divernon, IL a daughter to Thomas J. & Maude B. (Anderson) Martin. She later married Jerry W. Royer on February 11, 1939 in Virden, IL.

Ruth graduated from Divernon High School. She was also a member of the Virden Church of the Brethren. She was a member of Do More Home Extension.

Surviving Ruth are her daughters; Dorothy L.(Wayne) Helmerichs of Virden, IL, Wilma Christianson (companion, Michael Maple) of Springfield, IL; 4 grandchildren; Allen Helmerichs, David Helmerichs, Barbara Mossman and Carol Nolet; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jerry W. Royer and brother, Virgil Martin.

There will be no visitation. There will be a graveside service at 11:30 A.M. Friday, April 3, 2015 at the Virden Cemetery with the Rev. Dave Barnett officiating. Pallbearers: Allen Helmerichs, David Helmerichs, Tony Helmerichs, Corey Helmerichs, Derek Helmerichs and Kevin Helmerichs. Hillsboro-Shirley J. Charles, 88, formerly of Virden, IL passed away at 7:45 A.M. Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Hillsboro Hospital, Hillsboro, IL.

Shirley was born December 22, 1926 in Virden, IL a daughter to Dave and Florence (Hunter) Griffiths. She later married Jules M. Charles in 1946 in Virden, IL. She lived in Virden until 2007 and moved to Hillsboro, IL.

Shirley and Jules co-owned Jules and Dave’s Tavern in Virden, IL and Sunset Lake Bar and Restaurant in Girard, IL. Shirley worked for Snell Brothers Equipment Co. of Virden, IL. and later for Farmer’s and Merchants Bank. She loved to dance, bowl and was active in the First Presbyterian Church, Virden, IL.

Surviving Shirley is her daughter, Renee (William) Cox of Coffeen, IL; granddaughter, Dawn (Robert) Eddington of Hillsboro, IL; great granddaughter, Macey Eddington of Hillsboro, IL and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding Shirley in death are her parents and her husband, Jules M. Charles.

Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL with the service starting immediately following the visitation at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Sue Sawers officiating. Virden-Linda Kay Shipp, 60, of Virden, IL passed away at 3:40 P.M. Friday, March 27, 2015 at St. John’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Linda was born April 5, 1954 in Springfield, IL a daughter of Norman E. & Doris B. (Jones) Molen. Linda married Michael Shipp on June 3, 1972 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard, IL.

Linda graduated from Virden High School in 1972. Linda was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Auburn, IL. She worked at the Foundation for Medical Care for 10 years and then worked for Levi, Ray and Shoup for 15 years.

Linda loved spending time outdoors gardening and tending to all of her flowers. Her greatest joy in life was her granddaughter Kadence. She loved spending time with her, whether it be planting flowers, playing dolls, reading or watching movies. Every moment spent with Kadence was a treasure to Linda.

Surviving Linda is her husband, Michael Shipp of Virden, IL; sons, Terry M. Shipp, Brian S. (Stephany) Shipp both of Virden, IL; brother, Norman E. (Robyn) Molen of Houston, TX; sister, Kathy A. Donaldson of Virden, IL; granddaughter, Kadence E. Shipp of Virden, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Linda in death are her parents.

Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home in Virden, IL for family only with the graveside service for family and close friends starting at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Martin Kaufmann officiating. Virden-Elmer “John” Smith, 68, of Virden, IL passed away at 9:45 A.M. Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at his residence.

John was born December 20, 1946 in Buckhart, IL, a son of John and Maxine (Denton) Smith. He later married Sharon Hannon on August 18, 1966 in Missouri.

John was a 1965 graduate of Mt. Auburn High School and worked for Schien Equipment. He later worked for the Virden School District where he retired in 2010 with over 34 years of service. John was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their numerous sporting events.

Surviving John is his wife, Sharon K. of Virden, IL; daughters, Lori A. (Fred) Mulacek of Girard, IL, Angie D. (Dean) Rodgers of Springfield, IL; sister, Millie Lynch of Selmer, TN; grandchildren, Lauren and Drew Mulacek and several nieces and nephews. Preceding John in death were his parents.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home in Virden, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 30, 2015 also at the funeral home with the Rev. John Huxtable officiating.
