Springfield- Dr. Charles A. Gianasi, 99, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 4:13 pm at Pleasant Hill Village in Girard, IL.

Charles was born May 14, 1918 in Dalzell, IL a son to Attillo & Mary (Tognarelli) Gianasi.  Charles married Patricia Daniels in April 1985 in Chicago, IL.

Charles graduated from Kincaid High School.  He continued his education graduating from Blackburn College and the University of Illinois School of Medicine.  He practiced Internal Medicine for over 50 years in Chicago, IL.

After Charles retired he spent his summers between Chicago and Kincaid and his winters were spent in Florida.  His last 8 years Charles resided at Montvale Living Center in Springfield where he met new friends and had fond memories of his time spent there.  He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp during WW II.

Charles is survived by several nieces and nephews.  Preceding Charles in death are his parents; wife, Particia, brothers; Louis and Dominic Gianasi and sisters, Kathryn Blanchetti, Helen Hannon, Anne Benestante

Carlinville – Betty Lorraine Shockey, 91, of Carlinville passed away at 11:10 A.M. Tuesday, October 4, 2017 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL

Betty was born on July 4, 1926 in Cerro Gordo, IL a daughter to Amos B. & Myrtle M. (Blickenstaff) Cable.  She married Charles G. Shockey on December 25, 1946 in Cerro Gordo, IL.

Betty worked as a Secretary at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.  Later she owned and operated Shockey Flower Shop which was located in Cerro Gordo, IL.

Surviving Betty is her son, Howard Shockey of OH; brother, Carl (Wilma) Cable of Cerro Gordo, IL; sister, Marjorie Thompson of CA; 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Preceding Betty in death are her parents; husband, Charles Shockey; son, Grant Shockey Jr, nephew, Dennis Cable and brother, Howard Cable.

Thayer – JoAnn H. Garbett, 78 of Thayer, IL passed away Monday September 25, 2017 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

JoAnn was born August 26, 1939 in Thayer, IL, a daughter of Jonas and Bernice Opal (Rae) Fitzpatrick. She married Charles W. Garbett Sr. August 11, 1956 in Girard, IL. She was a former Den Mother for Pack 55 in Thayer, IL. JoAnn loved to read, crochet and do cross stitching and spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving is her husband Charles W. Garbett Sr. of Thayer, IL a daughter, Lenore E. (Kip) Smith of Pawnee, IL, sons, Charles W. (Mya) Garbett Jr. of Goodhope, IL and Michael P. (Carole) Garbett of Pawnee, IL, 7 grandchildren, 3 great  grandchildren, a sister, Nancy A. (William) Ervin of Auburn, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents.

 Virden – Delores Ross, 85 of Virden, IL passed away Tuesday September 19, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center Springfield, IL.

Delores was born August 26, 1932 in Virden, IL. She graduated from Virden High School in 1951 and married Theodore C. “Bud” Ross November 8, 1952 in Virden, IL. Delores formerly worked for the State of Illinois and at the Macoupin County Courthouse. She formerly owned and operated Virden Coin Wash, formerly worked Dicarlo’s Restaurant in Virden and was an avid Virden Bulldog sports fan.

Surviving Delores is her daughter, Carroll L. (Jeff) Millburg of Thayer, IL, son, Ray J. (Stacy) Ross of Springfield, IL, 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sisters Arlene Love-Ballinger of Virden, IL and Lola Lemarr of Springfield, IL; half-brothers, Leon (Joyce) Baker of Cray, NC, Gilbert Baker of Virden, IL, Ron (Chris) Baker of Hannibal, MO; half-sister, Helen (Robert) Katzenmaier of Virden, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death was her husband, Theodore C. “Bud” Ross, and a sister, Linda Guthrie and half-brothers, Donald and Bill Baker.

Girard – Kevin P. Keeling, 58 of Girard, IL, passed away Wednesday September 13, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Kevin was born January 16, 1959 in Sterling, IL, a son of Douglas and Wanda (Marshall) Keeling. He worked for the Illinois Department of Correction in Vandalia, IL in the boiler engineer. Kevin married Tammy Elder December 31, 1996 in Greenville, IL. He was a member of the Vandalia Knights of Columbus and the Vandalia Sons of The American Legion.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Tammy Keeling of Girard, IL, daughters, Bonnie Keeling and Breanna Keeling both of Vandalia, IL, and Katie Keeling of Greenville, IL, seven sons, Justin (Darci) Keeling of Fenton, IL, Lukus (Joc) Keeling of Charlack, MO, Patrick (Michelle) Keeling of Jacksonville, NC,, Steven (Kristin) Thomas of Archer City, TX, Scott (Emily) Thomas of Girard, IL, and Tad Keeling of McLeansboro, IL, numerous grandchildren, a brother, Michael (Sally) Keeling of Rock Falls, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were his parents and a son Ryan Thomas a brother, Douglas “Skip” Keeling and a sister, Donna Bowman.

Virden – Jerrette “Jerry” L. Stewart, 86 of Virden, IL, passed away Monday September 11, 2017 at Virden Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Virden, IL.

Jerry was born June 10, 1931 in Shelbyville, MO, a son of Kenneth W. and Leona (Gaines) Stewart. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Jerry was a member of the First Christian Church in Virden, IL, where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Board Member. He retired in 1993 from AMEREN Electric where he had worked as a lineman and was a member of the Virden American Legion Post #386 in Virden, IL.

Surviving Jerry is his best friend, Patricia Richey of Auburn, IL, and his four daughters, Julie (Rich) Pollack of Boulder, CO, Debra Pierson of Burbank, CA, Donna Stewart of Arvada, CO and Janis (Kurt) Greenbaum of Chesterfield, MO, 5 grandchildren, a sister, Jan Woods of College Park, TX, and brothers, Marion L. (Barbara) Stewart of Coralville, IA and Norman E. (Virginia) Stewart of Columbia, MO, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were his parents.

Virden – Beverly “Bev” E. Horrighs, 65, of Virden, IL, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Heritage Hospice Springfield, IL.

Bev was born May 4, 1952 in Odessa, Texas a daughter to Thelma Young. She married Robert “Pumpkin” T. Horrighs in 1970 in Springfield, IL. Bev loved anything to do with horses and traveling especially to Gatlinburg, TN.

Bev is survived by her husband, Robert “Pumpkin” T. Horrighs of Virden, IL, daughters, Angela M. Horrighs and Amber L. Horrighs both of Springfield, IL, sons, Robert T. (Windy Eskew) Horrighs Jr. and Russell J. Horrighs both of Virden, IL, 9 grandchildren. Preceded in death by her mother, and granddaughter, Shelby N. Horrighs.
