Girard – Mary E. Millburg, 95 of Girard, IL passed away surrounded by her loving family Monday, December 8, 2014 at Pleasant Hill Village, Girard, IL

Mary was born October 24, 1919 in Nilwood, IL a daughter of George and Effie (George) Yard. She married Robert “Bob” Millburg July 28, 1941 in Detroit, MI. Mary was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church in Girard, IL. She was a cook for the Girard School District for many years. Mary enjoyed bowling in leagues in Raymond and She and her husband Bob danced throughout central Illinois.

Surviving Mary is her husband Bob Millburg of Girard, IL, daughters, Loretta M. (Wayne) Cook and Barbara S. Jones both of Springfield, IL, Sheila R. (David) Beveridge and Mary D. (Joseph) Beveridge both of St. Louis, MO, Theresa M. (Terry) Goby of Raymond, IL and Martha J. Hinds of Ft. Myers, FL, sons, Charles L. (Trudy) Millburg of Punta Gorda, FL and Joseph R. (Dena) Millburg of Raymond, IL, 21 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Mary in death were her sisters, Lela Kershaw and Myrtle Jones, brothers, Glenn, George, John, Willis, Chancy and Clarence Yard, a granddaughter, Anne Beveridge and a son-in-law, Jay Hinds.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday December 11, 2014 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL with funeral mass at 10 a.m. Friday December 12, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Church, Girard, IL. Father James Palakudy officiating. Organist will be Marcella Rosiere with soloist granddaughter  Amanda Berry. Burial will be in St. Maurice Cemetery Morrisonville, IL. Virden – Richard L. “Rich” Hampton, 65 of Virden, IL passed away Saturday Nov. 29, 2014 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

Rich was born May 31, 1949 in Jacksonville, IL.  He later married Joan L. Centko on August 17, 1973 in Virden, IL.

Rich joined the U.S. Air Force and retired after 31 years of service.  Upon his retirement from the Air National Guard as 1st Master Sergeant in 2004, Rich worked as a Paramedic in the surrounding communities with current employment at Boyd Healthcare and Greene County Ambulance Service.  Rich enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Surviving Rich is his wife, Joan Hampton of Virden, IL, son Eric A. (Julie Williamson) Hampton of Virden, IL, granddaughters, Aby E., Karleigh I. and Clayre N. Hampton, sister, Dorothy (Joseph) Chalmers of Decatur, IL. a brother, Leonard (Marsha) Hampton of Bloomington, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Rich in death were his parents.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 2, 214 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Dec. 3, 2014 at the funeral home. Father James Palakudy officiating. Pallbearers are Joel & Benjamin Chalmers, Jonathan Williamson, Patrick and Mike Hampton and Kevin Waldeck. Carlinville – Wanda “Kay” Snyder, 78 of Carlinville, IL formerly of Palmyra, IL passed away Sunday Nov. 16, 2014 at Carlinville Rehab and Health Care Carlinville, IL.

Kay was born Feb. 17, 1936 in Kansas City, MO a daughter of Kenneth and Vera (Hicks) Nifong. She married James H. “Jim” Snyder December 6, 1952.

Surviving Kay is her son, Bruce Snyder of Hillsville, VA, daughters, Kathy L. (Terry) Evoy of Modesto, IL and Lynda K. (Kyle) Hood of Girard, IL, 7 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and a brother, Robert “Bob” Nifong of Palmyra, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were Kay’s parents, husband James H. “Jim” Snyder and a granddaughter, Katlyn Snyder.

Private family graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday November 19, 2014 at Oak Hill Cemetery Palmyra, IL. Rev. Scott Bayles officiating. Pallbearers are Jason, Jeremiah, and Terry Evoy, Andrew Kelley, Kyle Hood and Eddie Hamilton. Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation.

Virden – Wanda B Tomasko, 88 of Virden, IL passed away Thursday November 13, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice, Springfield, IL.

Wanda was born December 12, 1925 in North Otter Township, IL a daughter of Russell and Laura (Bridwell) Malsbury. She married Earl Tomasko March 8, 1946 in Virden, IL. Wanda was a life long member of the First Christian Church, Virden, IL.

Wanda attended Sugar Creek Country School and went to Virden High School at the age of twelve graduating at the age of sixteen in 1942 and was a Drum Major for the Virden High School marching band. Wanda attended Millikin University in Decatur, IL, because that was one of the few schools that accepted sixteen year olds as students. While at Millikin she worked on the Manhattan Project and was a member of the Theta Upsilon Sorority and played on the Millikin University basketball team. She helped her husband Earl with their dairy farm prior to teaching school in Thayer and later for the Virden and Girard School Districts. She was a member and past worthy matron with the Eastern Star, past member and treasurer of the Virden Baseball Association, and with her husband coached girls softball. Wanda and Earl’s proudest achievement was raising ten children and trying to never miss a game their children or grandchildren were playing.

Surviving Wanda are her daughters, Marilyn (Donald) James of Gresham, OR, Janice, Jean, Judie, Julia Tomasko and Kellie Austif all of Virden, IL, a son James (companion, Barb Radtke) Tomasko of Rochester, IL, 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Preceding Wanda in death was her husband Earl Tomasko, sons, Russell and Steven Tomasko and a brother-in-law, Albert Dale Tomasko.

Visitation will be from Noon Monday November 17, 2014 until service time at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Virden, IL with Rev. John Huxtable officiating. Brian Neuman will be the organist. Honorary Pallbearers are Wayne Nichols, Jerry Stewart, Bob Humphrey and Dave O’Dell. Pallbearers are Hannah, Lydia, Evan, Joe, Ben and Sean Tomasko, Ellen and Stephen Beckwith, Kyle Austif and Kyle Heriford. Burial will be in Virden Cemetery. Girard – Kenneth F. Lomelino, 86 of Girard, IL passed away Tuesday November 11, 2014 at Pleasant Hill Village, Girard, IL.

Kenneth was born May 27, 1928 in Modesto, IL a son of Leo Ray and Ruth (Cline) Lomelino. He attended Virden schools and was a navy veteran serving from 1946 to 1947. He married Doris M. Post April 15, 1957 in Freeport, IL. Kenneth worked for over 20 years as a prison guard at Stateville Maximum Prison in Lockport and prior to retiring he was the supervisor over the soap shop. During his retirement he enjoyed auctions and garage sales

Kenneth is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Doris Lomelino of Girard, IL, brothers, Don Lomelino of Bonita Springs, FL and Stan West of Manhattan, IL, sister, Janet Tucker of Springfield, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Kenneth in death were his parents, brothers, Myron, Dale, Carl and Cliff Lomelino and sisters, Freda Stevens,  Shirley Sepesy, Lorene Byers and Maxine Pope.

Visitation will be from 10:00 to time of service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday November 15, 2014 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL with Mr. Terry Link officiating.  Virden – Laura M. Henke, 69 of Virden, IL passed away Saturday Nov. 1, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Laura was born October 17, 1945 a daughter of Carl and Waneta (Bradley) Van Huss. She was a 1963 graduate of Virden High School and married Erwin C. Henke July 12, 1969 in Virden, IL. Laura was a member of Prairie Temple Assembly of God Church in Virden, IL and formerly worked at DiCarlo’s restaurant in Virden, IL.

Surviving Laura is her husband, Erwin C. Henke of Virden, IL, son, Derrick (Kendra) Henke of Auburn, IL, daughter Crystal Henke of Bentonville AR, 3 grandchildren, one brother Jim (Mary) Van Huss of Lexington, KY, 5 sisters Helen (Tom) Rolando, Midge (Fred) Olive, Eileen Elston all of Virden, IL, Geraldine (John) Singer of Sorento, IL and Esther (Aaron) Brewer of Litchfield, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were her parents, sister Hallie Lair, brothers, Jasper, Charles, Robert and Tom Van Huss.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 4, 2014 at Prairie Temple Assembly of God Church in Virden, IL and one hour prior to services at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Rev. Terry Turner officiating. Pallbearers are Derrick and Kendrick Henke, Brian Singer, Jim Beckner, Brett Toppmeyer, Mike Elston, Salvador DiCarlo and Harold Van Huss. Burial will be in West Cemetery. Virden-Michael E. McFarland, 65, of Virden, IL passed away at 12:40 A.M. Wednesday, October 23, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Michael was born on September 9, 1949 in Pana, IL a son to William & Clara (Bishop) McFarland.  He graduated from Staunton High School and later joined the Marines and served during the Viet Nam War.  Michael loved the outdoors, loved to camp, garden and do anything that dealt with the outdoors.  Michael loved his dogs, Dawn and Molly.  When he would go fishing Dawn was right there with him and Molly went with him everywhere.  Anyone who knew him knew that he was “The Boss.”

Surviving Michael are his sons, Jeramie McFarland of Virden, IL, Shawn (Dawn) McFarland of Carlinville, IL; companion, Linda D. McFarland of Virden; brother, Jonathan (Donna) McFarland of MO; 2 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.  Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 27, 2014 at the Virden Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Hammond officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.  To leave a comment for the family, please visit:
