Virden – Della M. Klimm, 89 of Virden, IL passed away Sunday December 4, 2016 at Sunrise Manor in Virden, IL.

Della was born August 30, 1927 in Divernon, IL a daughter of Urias and Della (Brubaker) Miller. She was a 1945 graduate of Girard High School and married Harold A. Klimm June 5, 1965 in Virden, IL. Della was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel, IL and formerly active in the quilting club at the church. She was a member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League where she held several officer positions.

Surviving Della is her son, Galen Leroy (Pam’la) Pallante of Las Vegas, NV, 5 grandchildren, Jesse Bettis, Kimberly Rospendowski, LeRoy (Tony) Pallante, Shiloh Lucero and Erik Pallante, 10 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, sisters, Elinor (Edwin) Wallace of
Virden, IL, Ilene (David) Whisler of Kingman, AZ, Wilma (Wayne) Nichols of Virden, IL, Ruth Thompson of Plantersville, TX and Zana (Allan) Dahlkamp of Rochester, IL, brothers, Edward (Stella) Miller of Wood River, IL and Clyde L. (Marcia) Miller of Springfield, IL, sister-in-law Kay Miller of Virden, IL and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by, sisters, Lola Mae Baines and Marjorie Wilson, brothers, Gene, Russell and Howard Miller.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday December 8, 2016 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday December 9, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Harvel, IL with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Virden – Mildred V. Webb, 107 of Carlinville, IL formerly of Virden, IL passed away Monday Nov. 28, 2016 at Friendship Home in Carlinville, IL.

Mildred was born October 15, 1909 in Christian County, IL a daughter to Edgar and Jessie (McKinney) Dyson. She was a 1928 graduate of Harvel High School and married Bernard Webb July 8, 1931 in Springfield, IL. Mildred worked at the Illiopolis munitions plant during WWII and waitressed in restaurants in Harvel and Taylorville, IL. She was a member of First Christian Church in Virden, IL. Mildred loved doing yard work taking care of her flowers, working at the First Christina Church and being with family and friends. Her special skills were sewing and quilting.

Surviving Mildred is her sister, Lois Neunaber of Carlinville, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were her parents, husband Bernard Webb, sisters, Vera Mason, Mary Miller and Dorothy Bell, brothers, Edgar L. and George R. Dyson and an infant brother and sister.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at 11:00 a.m. Thursday December 1, 2016 at the First Christian Church, Virden, IL with Rev. John Huxtable officiating; organist, Rachel Fechtman.  Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday December 1, 2016 at Morrisonville Cemetery Morrisonville, IL. Staunton – Charles Glenwood “Glen” Elders Jr., 53 of Staunton, IL passed away Tuesday November 8, 2016 in Staunton, IL.

Glen was born February 20, 1963 in East St. Louis, IL a son to Charles G. and Mary (Nordyke) Elders Sr. Glenn like to fish and play cards with family and friends.

Surviving is his son, Charles M. “Charlie” Elders of Virden, IL, mother, Mary Johnson of Staunton, IL, 1 granddaughter, sister, Marla Elders of Missouri, brothers, Keith (Toni) Elders of Worden, IL and Les (Kathleen) Massey of Gillespie, IL, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death was his father, Charles G. Elders Sr., sister, Debbie Gwynn, brother, Leonard Massey and a niece, Ashley Gwynn.

Virden-Ruth Y. Baird, 87, of Virden, IL, passed away peacefuly at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehbilitation Center in Virden on Sunday, November 6, 2016, following a short illness.

Ruth was born in Lowder, IL on November 10, 1928, the only child of Harold and Mary Wood.  Ruth lived in the Virden, IL area most of her life. Ruth married James “Scotty” Baird on November 25, 1948 in Virden, IL.   Ruth first served as Secretary in the Virden Elementary Principal’s office and then with the Superintendent’s Office for 22 years.  She retired in the early 1990’s.  In retirement, she was a volunteer at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL for 17 years.  Ruth was a former Girl Scout Leader, member of the Virden Chapter of the Eastern Star, Thayer Methodist Church, Virden Methodist Church Women’s Group and PEO.

Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She thoroughly enjoyed her Friday night suppers with friends and occasional family at the Virden Bowling Alley.  Surviving Ruth is her son, John S (Deb Esselman) Baird of Colby, WI; two grandsons, Francis Scott (Cynthia) Baird of Mascoutah, IL and  Ryan Baird of Elsah, IL; nine step-grandchildren: Christina (Nick) Schuld, Danielle Esselman, Catherine (Josh) Knecht, Joe Esselman, Ken Esselman, Kevin (Angela) Esselman, Robert Esselman, Angela (Jeremy) Skubal, and Adam (Nicole) Esselman, all of Wisconsin.  She also has 12 great-grandchildren, Zoey and Heidi Baird of IL, and Brandon and Jason Lea, Lucas and Nathan Schuld, Ethan, Zachary, Matthew, Alexis Knecht, and Aaron and Kylie Skubal of Wisconsin. Preceding Ruth in death were her parents, Harold and Mary Wood, her husband James “Scotty” Baird, and her daughter Debra Lynn Baird.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home in Virden, IL.  Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, November 10, 2016 also at the funeral home with Rev. Mary Alice Cunningham and Rev. Chuck Kurfman officiating.  Pallbearers: Francis Scott Baird, John Ryan Baird, Greg Reichert, Gary Edwards, George and Joe Murphy. Honorary Pallbearers: Glenn Neff, Ron Carney and Jerry Mayes. Carlinville – Patrick Matthew Baker, 28 of Carlinville, IL formerly of Virden, IL passed away Sunday October 9, 2016 at his residence.

Patrick was born May 9, 1988 in Springfield, IL a son to Ron W. and Rena M. (Riffey) Baker Sr. He graduated from Virden High School (SASED) in 2006. Patrick was an out-going, fun loving person who was a compassionate champion for those less fortunate than he. He was proud to participate in Carlinville Estates Human Rights Commission and was the “go-to” person for other residents. Patrick loved wrestling, fishing, swimming, movies, breakfast with his family and family gatherings. He loved gaming with his brothers and corresponded with a large group of internet friends. He loved animals, especially the family dog, Pepper.

Patrick is survived by his mother Rena (Bob) Steele of Virden, IL, father, Ron (Chris) Baker Sr. of Hannibal, MO, brothers, Michael (Heather) Baker of Thayer, IL and Ron Baker Jr. of O’Fallon, MO and several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Step-brothers and Step-sisters.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday October 13, 2016 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL. Rev. Mary Alice Cunningham officiating. Virden – Ruth E. Johnson, 80 of Virden, IL passed away Monday October 3, 2016 at her residence surround by her family.

Ruth was born June 20, 1936 in Vincennes, IN, a daughter of Beryl and Harriet (Seals) Pittman. She married Rev. David P. Johnson June 6, 1953 in Shawneetown, IL. Ruth was a minister’s wife for many years and assisted her husband in the churches they served.

Surviving Ruth is her mother, Harriet Pittman of Indianapolis, IN, daughters, Paula Harbaugh of Virden,  IL  and Deborah Moses of Marine, IL, sons, David (Trinna) Johnson of Virden, IL and Billy (Phyllis) Johnson of Clarksville, TN, 24 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, sister, Faye (Randy) Wood of Indianapolis, IN, brothers, Carl (Marilyn) Pittman of Savanah, GA, James (Joy) Pittman of McCordsville, IN and Roger Pittman of Indianapolis, IN and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death was her father, Beryl Pitman, husband Rev. David P. Johnson, granddaughter, Elizabeth Bennett and sisters, Luetta Shipley, Judy Land and Velma sue Bough and brother Harold Pittman.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to Noon Wednesday October 5, 2016 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL with Rev. James McGee, Rev. Larry Mouser and Rev. Trevor Johnson officiating, soloists are, Julie McGee, Tom and Karen Burrell. Honorary Pallbearers are Jeramiah Johnson and Jonathon Johnson . James William Evans

James W. Evans, “Gray Fox”, 90 of Thayer passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, September 28, 2016.

Jim was born June 2nd, 1926 to James and Anna Mae Evans.  He married his high school sweetheart, June Davis, on June 5th, 1948 and she survives.

Father of 10 children.  Five sons:  Mark, Matthew, Taylor (Phyllis), Tim (Patrice), and Tom (Susan); five daughters: Gail (Fred), Judy (Jim), Beth (Bob), Rebecca (Terry), and Sarah (Bob); brother Robert (JoEllen) and sister Dorothy (Mick, deceased).  He has 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandkids.

He was a member of Thayer United Methodist Church and has attended that church since childhood.

He was a World War II Veteran, serving his country in the Navy during that war in the Southwest Pacific.

Mr. Evans owned and operated Evans Masonry until he retired and his sons carry on the family business.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son (Matthew), and one Grandson (Luke Gass).

Private graveside services were at 2 p.m. on Sept. 29th.  He was taken from his home to his final resting place at the family cemetery on his farm.  Calvert and Ferry Funeral Home in Virden handled arrangements.  Rev. Jerry Divjak officiating.

Pallbearers were sons, Mark, Taylor, Tim, and Tom; grandsons Clay Gass, Matthew Morgan, Matthew Evans, Luke, Wil and Joseph June; and Cole and Cade Etter.  Honorary pallbearer Michael Morgan (US Navy, stationed on the USS Royal).

Memorials may be made to Thayer United Methodist Church.
