Virden-Michael E. McFarland, 65, of Virden, IL passed away at 12:40 A.M. Wednesday, October 23, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Michael was born on September 9, 1949 in Pana, IL a son to William & Clara (Bishop) McFarland.  He graduated from Staunton High School and later joined the Marines and served during the Viet Nam War.  Michael loved the outdoors, loved to camp, garden and do anything that dealt with the outdoors.  Michael loved his dogs, Dawn and Molly.  When he would go fishing Dawn was right there with him and Molly went with him everywhere.  Anyone who knew him knew that he was “The Boss.”

Surviving Michael are his sons, Jeramie McFarland of Virden, IL, Shawn (Dawn) McFarland of Carlinville, IL; companion, Linda D. McFarland of Virden; brother, Jonathan (Donna) McFarland of MO; 2 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.  Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 27, 2014 at the Virden Cemetery with Rev. Thayer – George J. Fedor 95 of Thayer, IL passed away Sunday Oct. 19, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield, IL.

George was born Jan. 15, 1919 a son of Victor and Mary (Lesko) Fedor. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church Virden, IL, a 1938 graduate of Virden High School, a Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WW II and a licensed union electrician for many years.

Surviving George is his sisters Theresa (Neil) Upchurch of San Antonio, TX, Lucille Santorelli of Riverton, IL and Helen Miller of Virden, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding George in death were his brothers, John, Andrew, Edward and Frankie Fedor, sisters, Margaret Bertolino, Ann Durham, Liz Bierstedt and Marie Renello.

Virden– June B. Langford, 90 of Virden, IL formerly of Hillsboro, IL passed away Thursday Oct. 9, 2014 at her home surround by her loving family.

June was born September 7, 1924 in Granite City, IL the eldestdaughter to Virgil and Daisy (Neal) Skipper. She married Carroll F. Langford July 20, 1941 in Union, MO. June graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Greenville College in Greenville, IL and her Master’s degree form SIUE in Edwardsville, IL. She taught 3rd grade for 15 years at Beckemeyer Elementary School in Hillsboro, IL and at the age of 77 she taught English in China for a year.

Surviving June are her daughters, Kathleen Sue Tobin of Reno, NV, Patricia Ann Langford of Kiln, MS and Jodee Langford Weaver of Reno, NV, sons, Michael “Mick” V. wife, Judy) Langford of Reno, NV and Russell W. (wife, Terry) Langford of Springfield, MO, 18 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and a son in law, Max Podshadley. Preceding in death was her husband, Carroll F. “Red”Langford, daughter, Anita E. Podshadley, granddaughter, Cheryl Caye (Podshadley) Pallakil, sister, Judith Skipper and brothers, Russell and Norman Skipper.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday Oct. 11, 2014 at Prairie Temple Assembly of God Church in Virden, IL with funeral services at Noon. Rev. Terry Turner officiating. Thayer – George M. Wargo, 82 of Thayer, IL passed away Saturday Oct. 4, 2014 at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Virden, IL.

George was born October 13, 1931 in Thayer, IL a son of Michael P. and Kathryn (Chizmar) Wargo. He graduated from Virden High School in 1949 and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. George married Katherine A. Lahnum April 24, 1954 in Virden, IL.  He was a member of the U.M.W. Union Local # 1969 Springfield, IL, and was a retired coal miner working at mines in Farmersville and Virden, IL. George was a member of the American Legion Post # 386 Virden, IL and the Knights of Columbus Council # 2321 Virden, IL. He was a former member of the Thayer Fire department and formerly worked at the Virden Shell Gas Station, the Virden School district and Garretson Lumber, and he coached Special Olympics for over 20 years and was Santa Clause for the Goodwill in Springfield, IL for many years.

Surviving George is his wife Katherine, sons David and James all of Thayer, IL a daughter Nancee (Mark) Kirby of Auburn, IL, grandchildren Michael, Hunter and Haley Wargo, Tera Kirby and Tiffany (Adam) Beagle, 4 great grandchildren, a sister Delores Glass of Auburn, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding George in death was his son Michael P. Wargo, sisters, Mary Ann McMahan and Regina Eskew.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 7, 2014 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL with funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 8, 2014 at the funeral home, Rev. Charles Kurfman officiating and Mark Kirby as soloist. Honorary pallbearers are Adam Beagle, Mark Kirby, Bill Kahl and Gary Crain. Pallbearers are Richard McMahan, Frank Crain, Brian Wood, Steve Kahl, John Storrjohann and Larry Krager. Stupar EnlargedSpringfield – Joseph Stupar, 96 of Springfield, IL, formerly of the Virden and Girard area, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at his home.

Joe was born January 23, 1918 in Virden, IL.  He was the son of Joseph F. and Iva Mae (Thomas) Stupar. He graduated from Virden High School in 1938 and retired with over 30 years of service in the U.S. Army as a Major serving in three wars, WW II, Korea and Vietnam and in combat zones in Germany, the Arctic Circle and the Panama Canal Zone.  Additional duties included South America, Central America and Stateside at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico with Strategic Communications.

He married Mary Trojcak July 28, 1946 who preceded him in death November 10, 1979.  A brother, Damon Stupar, and sister, Venus Singer, also preceded him in death.  Joe later married Dorothy Littlejohn on June 8, 1981.

Surviving Joe is his wife Dorothy Stupar of Springfield, IL, a son, Mark Stupar, a daughter, Annelisa (Dr. Martin) Cleary of Apple River, IL, grandchildren Colin, Daniel and Caitlin Cleary, a daughter by marriage, Judy (Bob) Carmody of Springfield, IL, granddaughters by marriage Brenda (Jeff) Price and Jennifer (Chet) Bartlett and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.  Private graveside services will be at 2:00pm on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL. Barbara was born February 6, 1937, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, a daughter of Clyde and Laura (Hart) Hart. She married Donald E. Fuchs January 4, 1958 in Farmersville, IL. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Girard, IL, and retired from Dickey-john Corp., Auburn, IL, after 25 years of service.  Barbara loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and entertaining friends and family.

Surviving Barbara are her husband Donald E. Fuchs, of Girard, IL, daughters, Laura L. (Curt) Davis of Rochester, IL, and Dawn M. (Thomas) Steiner of Lincoln, IL, a son, Louis P. “Pat” (Theresa) Fuchs of Glenarm, IL, grandchildren, Alexandra and Cameron Davis, Nicholas and Craig Fuchs, Benjamin, Madeline and Claire Steiner, sister, Colleen (David) Sokol of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, brother William “Bill” (Myrt) Hart of Kalispell, MT, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Barbara in death were her parents and a brother, Richard Hart.

Virden-Shirley J. Palmer, 73, of Virden, IL passed away at 8:37 P.M. Thursday, September 18, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born in Jacksonville, IL on August 7, 1941, a daughter to Lincoln & Martha Rae (Cook) Smith.  She later married Richard L. Palmer on May 3, 1957 in Palmyra, MO.

Shirley was a homemaker and loved to spend time with her family, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved to make crafts and was a member of Grace Southern Baptist Church, Virden, IL.

Surviving Shirley is her husband, Richard L. Palmer; son, Rick A. (Shannon) Palmer of Girard, IL; daughters, Vicki (John) Lewis of Virden, IL, Brenda Cox of Springfield, IL, Dawn (Rick) Allen of Divernon, IL, Crystal (Patrick) VanDiver of Springfield, IL, Tanya (George) Colvin of Virden, IL; brother, Harold (Evelyn) Smith of Pawnee, IL; sister, Leona Yoakum of Springfield, IL; 19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Preceding Shirley in death are her parents; sister, Florence Brown and great grandson, Kyle Royer.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon, Monday, September 22, 2014 with the funeral service starting immediately following the service at 12:00 Noon at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home in Virden, IL with the Rev.
