Auburn – Mary Cox, 94 of Auburn, IL, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehab Virden, IL.

Mary was born November 17, 1922 in Auburn, IL a daughter of Marcel and Zoe (Moreau) Bastien. She married McKinley Cox September 5, 1938 in St. Louis, MO. She worked at McCoy’s Laundry and Cleaners in Springfield, IL and then 10 years as a nurse’s aide at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Surviving is her daughter, Barbara Jean Yazell of Sidell, LA, son, Chester Cox of Virden, IL, 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death was her husband McKinley Cox, infant daughter, Mary Cox, sons Kenneth and Dennis Cox, a great grandchild and a brother, Marcel E. Bastien.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday August 11, 2017 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Auburn, IL, with funeral services at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Lowder – Virginia F. McMahan, 85 of Lowder, IL passed away Sunday July 30, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.

Virginia was born September 12, 1931 in Carlinville, IL, a daughter of Raymond H. and Elnora L. (Davis) Hampton. She married Clecy D. McMahan October 30, 1948 in Carlinville, IL. Virginia enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving is her daughters, Linda L. Contreras of Lowder, IL, and Terry L. DuBois of Auburn, IL, sons, Charles D. (Nancy) McMahan of Jackson, MI and Rob E. (Susan) McMahan of Thayer, IL, 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren, sisters, Martha Remus of Girard, IL and Jane Oller of Auburn, IL, brothers, Eldon Hampton of East Alton, IL, John (Sarah) Hampton of Springfield, IL and Dale Hampton of Henrietta, OK, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death was her husband, Clecy D. McMahan, grandson, Todd McMahan, sisters, Emma Kahl, Mary Cook, twin sisters, Myrtle and Myra Hampton, brothers, Arthur, Henry, Harold and Charles Hampton.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL with funeral services at 11:30 a.m. Thursday August 3, 2017 at the funeral home. Girard- James R. “Randy” Mayfield, 54, of Girard passed away at 8:52 PM, Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at his home in Girard, IL.

Randy was born on January 31, 1963 in Joliet, IL a son to James L. & Wanda (Jenkins) Mayfield. He was a 1981 graduate of Girard High School. Randy married Shannen L. Colliflower on June 2, 2001 in Carlinville, IL. He worked as a Union Laborer and was a member of the Laborers Union Local #477 of Springfield, IL.  Randy enjoyed spending time outdoors and fishing. He was most known for his story-telling.

Surviving Randy is his wife, Shannen L. Mayfield of Girard, IL; parents, Jim & Wanda (Jenkins) Mayfield of Girard, IL; sisters, Lisa (Darrin) Miller of Nilwood, IL, Jenny (Chris) VanDeventer of Springfield, IL; brother, Michael Mayfield of Girard, IL; mother-in-law, Linda Colliflower of Thayer, IL; brother-in-law, Stephen (Suzy Borella) Colliflower of Virden, IL; sister-in-law, Bridgette Colliflower of Phoenix, AZ; nieces, Alicia Mayfield, Hannah Miller, Madison Colliflower; nephews, Justin Miller, Zachary Mayfield, Fletcher VanDeventer and inherited children, “Red” Stelle Stults and Quentin “Q” Coleman. Randy was preceded in death by his grandparents, father-in-law and several close friends.

Beloit, WI. –  William B. “Bill” Barnett, 81 of Beloit, WI formerly of Springfield and Girard, IL passed away Wednesday July 19, 2017 at Beloit Memorial Hospital Beloit, WI.

Bill was born June 8, 1936 in Chicago, IL a son of William E. and Marian (Elsworth) Barnett. He married Patsy R. Hendon June 1, 1957 in Chicago, IL. Bill was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church Springfield, IL and formerly worked as a manager for ABC Supply Company in Springfield, IL, and later as a custodian at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Surviving is his daughter, Patricia G. Rimert of Acworth, GA, sons, Daniel (Sarah) Barnett of Powder Springs, GA, William S. “Steve” (Molly) Barnett of Beloit, WI, Richard (Angie) Barnett and James (Lisa) Barnett both of Dallas, GA., 11 grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren, sisters, Charlotte Sakia of Port St. Lucie, FL and Mary (Richard) Richardson of Port St. Lucia, FL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were his parents, his wife Patsy R. Barnett, son Michael, grandson Justin, and beloved pet Coco.

Modesto – Donald Lee Johnston, 89 of Modesto, IL passed away Wednesday July 19, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Don was born August 11, 1927 in Chatham, IL the son of Elva and Martha (Fahs) Johnston. He graduated from Auburn High School Auburn, IL, and served in the U.S. Army at the end of WW II. Don married Patricia L. Denny June 25, 1950 in Chatham, IL. He farmed his entire life and also worked at Fiat-Allis. Don was a member of the American Legion and was an avid horseman and raised Morgans and Quarter Horses in his early life.

Surviving are his daughters, Janice L. (John) Parrish of Hudson, NC, Gail L. Johnston of Modesto, IL and Melinda L. Sutton of Girard, IL, sons, David L. (Heidi) Johnston of Scottville, IL, William L. Johnston of Hutchison, KS and Jess L. (companion; Joby Holmes) Johnston of Okmulgee, OK, 12 grandchildren,16great grandchildren. Preceding death were his parents, wife, Patricia Louise Johnston and 2 great granddaughters, Amber Parrish and Ava Johnston.

Helen J. Miller 94, of Virden, IL passed away Monday July 17, 2017 at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Virden, IL.

Helen was born August 30, 1922 in Thayer, IL, a daughter of Victor and Mary (Lesko) Fedor. She graduated from Virden High School in 1940. Helen married William P. “Bill” Miller November 11,1940 in Virden, IL. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and was Women of Distinction in 2014.

Surviving is her son David (Renee) Miller of Auburn, IL, grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) Schrof of Normal, IL and Jeff (Heather) Miller of Auburn, IL, great grandchildren, Mallory and Marley Schrof, Halle and Hank Miller, sister, Theresa (Neil) Upchurch of San Antonio, TX and a brother Victor (Audrey) Fedor of Ft. Worth, TX, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were her parents, husband, William P. “Bill” Miller; son, Donald “Duck” Miller;  sisters, Margaret Bertolino, Ann Durham, Liz Bierstedt, Marie Renello and Lucille Santerelli, brothers, John, Andrew, Edward, Frankie and George Fedor.

There will be no visitation.  There will be a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Thursday July 20, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church Virden, IL, with Father Christopher House officiating. Springfield – Danny G. White Sr., 75 of Springfield, IL formerly of Virden, IL passed away Saturday July 15, 2017 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Danny was born March 9, 1942 in Springfield, IL, a son of Andrew and Prudence (Miller) White. He married Alice K. Harper and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam. Danny was a truck driver and a member of the Teamsters Local #916 in Springfield, IL and a member of the D.A.V and American Legion Springfield, IL. Preceding in death were his parents and his wife Alice K. White.

Surviving is his companion, Linda M. Berner of Springfield, IL, sons, Danny G. (companion: Petrea) White of Indianapolis, IN, and Troy D. White of Taylorville, IL, daughters, Tina C. White of Noble, IL and Gina K. and Prudence A. White both of Olney, IL, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and a brother, Dale A. White of Springfield, IL.
