Lincoln – Reta E. Jurina, 96 of Lincoln, IL, formerly of Virden, IL, passed away Saturday December 8, 2018 at Lincoln Christian Village, Lincoln, IL.

Reta was born August 13, 1922 in Windsor, IL, a daughter of Clarence and Lora (Turrentine) Gaston. She married Clyde Clevenger January 27, 1942 in St. Charles, MO, and following his death she married John Jurina June 3, 1959 in Carlinville, IL.

Surviving Reta are her daughters, Sandra F. Clevenger of Windsor, IL, and Janet R. Clevenger of Springfield, IL, 5 grandchildren,11 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, a brother, Robert Gaston of Windsor, IL, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were her parents, husbands, Clyde Clevenger and John Jurina, daughters, Beverly Barnard, Janice Williams and Judy Clevenger, granddaughter, Sheri Barnard and a sister, Katherine Wells.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday December 22, 2018 at Virden Cemetery Virden, IL. Pastor John Snyder officiating. Springfield – Stephen Paul Dameron, 62, of Springfield, IL, passed away Tuesday November 27, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center Springfield, IL, surrounded by his loving family.

Stephen was born August 26, 1956 in Carlinville, IL, a son of Aaron Paul and Melba J. (Maguire) Dameron. He was a resident and client of SPARC in Springfield, IL, and worked at various restaurant’s in the Springfield area. Stephen was a member of Lakeside Christian Church Springfield, IL, and active in Special Olympics and an avid Cardinal and Illini fan.

Surviving Stephen is his mother, Melba J. Dameron of Girard, IL, sisters, Pamela S. Athey of Springfield, IL, Julie M. (Brad) Smith of Athens, IL, and Sheryl M. (Steve) Wise of Girard, IL, a brother, Aaron Scott (Jill) Dameron of Springfield, IL, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death was his father, Aaron Paul Dameron.

Virden – Ronald E. Blankenship, 72 of Virden, IL passed away Tuesday November 20, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center Springfield, IL, surrounded by his loving family.

Ron was born March 16, 1946 in Springfield, IL, a son of Lester M. and Mary L. (Feco) Blankenship. He attended Girard High School in Girard, IL, and retired from Altorfer in Springfield, IL, where he worked in the parts department. Ron was an avid golfer and race fan and enjoyed gambling.

Surviving Ron is his wife, Shirley Blankenship of Virden, IL, daughter, Angela M. (Gary) Marsaglia of Virden, IL, sons, Christopher L. (Tina) Blankenship of Virden, IL, and Jason L. (Natalie) Blankenship of Virden, IL, 6 grandchildren, Kale Blankenship, Raegan (Cody) Parker, Jacob (Lauren Clardy) Marsaglia, Alexandra Reiser and Mikayla and Jenna Blankenship, a great grandson Jackson Marsaglia, sisters, Wilma Blankenship and Mary Kay Enrietta both of Virden, IL, a brother, Lester Blankenship of Springfield, IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Shirley Lewis and Gerry Hullmann.

Ida Frances Brewer

Springfield, IL – Ida Frances Brewer, 85 of Springfield, IL formerly of Virden, IL passed away at 2:20 P.M. Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village, Springfield, IL with her friends at her bedside.

Ida was born in Benton, IL on March 17, 1933 a daughter to Frank and Ida Mae (Post) Grimmett. Ida attended Virden High School and graduated in 1951.

After graduation Ida worked for a large firm in Chicago in their clerical department. She later moved to California where she again worked for a large company in their clerical department and was married on May 19, 1962 in San Diego, California.  When she divorced in 1971 she moved to Virginia and worked for the Federal Government.  Ida loved to travel around and she also went to school to learn how to use and set up teletype.  She returned to Illinois and went to work for The Illinois State Police as a Clerk / Dispatcher in 1973 and took her early retirement in 1995.  She loved to read and her two favorite authors were Stuart Woods and Catherine Coulter.  She loved  the outdoors as she loved to spend time in her garden and with her horse and Pomeranians. She loved to knit and crochet and most importantly she loved spending time with her family and her friends.

Surviving Ida is a niece, Karen Morris of Sumrall, MS and her friends, Dottie Brabec, Frank, Frances and Bob.  Preceding Ida in death are her parents; brothers, Warren, Christopher and Arthur Grimmett and a cousin, Doris Lomelino.

Virden – David L. Enrietta, 68 of Virden, IL passed away Sunday October 28, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center Springfield, IL.

David was born August 29, 1950 in Springfield, IL, a son of Frank and Isabell (Ovington) Enrietta. He was a 1968 graduate of Virden High School and served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. David married Mary Kay Blankenship September 12, 1980 in Virden, IL. He worked as a warehouseman for Altorfer in Springfield, IL for over 35 years.

Surviving David is his wife Mary Kay Enrietta of Virden, IL, daughter, Mary Jane Enrietta of Virden, IL, sons, Tony (Jen) Enrietta of Carlinville, IL, Justin Enrietta of Virden, IL, and Nick Enrietta of Girard, IL, grandchildren, Maggie (Bryan)Huff, David, Cash, Jacqueline, Presley and Lennon Enrietta, great grandchildren, Isabella, Bentley and Dylan Huff, sister, Marilyn Croft of Springfield, IL and a brother, Larry Enrietta of Chatham, IL and several nieces and nephews.

Auburn, IL –Ross L. McNaught, 87 of Auburn, passed away Wednesday October 24, 2018 at Pana Community Hospital, Pana, IL, from injuries received in an automobile accident. 

Ross was born April 16, 1931, in Springfield, IL, a son of Maurice and Frances (Ross) McNaught. He graduated from Virden High School in 1948 and with a Masters Degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.  Ross married Mary Alice “Corky” Kridner on August 4, 1957, in Chenoa, IL.  He was a lifelong farmer and was still actively farming until his death.  Ross was a member of the ROTC at UIUC and an Eagle Scout.  He loved to attend auctions and always had a story or a joke to tell.

Surviving Ross are his wife, Mary Alice McNaught of Auburn, IL; daughters, Karen (Tom Skelly) McNaught of Chatham, IL and Diane (James) Wallace of Carterville, IL; three grandchildren, Ross and Landon Skelly and Matthew Wallace; and several nieces. Preceding in death were his parents; an infant brother, Maurice Jr., and a brother, Lowell McNaught; and his nephews, Roger and David McNaught.

Cremation Rites have been accorded by Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering from 10:00 to noon on Saturday Nov. 3, 2018, at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, with services at noon and a luncheon to follow at the Virden United Methodist Church. Virden – Rodger A. Smith, 67, of Virden, IL passed away at 6:15 P.M. Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at home with his loving family at his side.

Rodger was born November 29, 1950 in Springfield, IL a son to Andrew and Agnes Marie (Babbitt) Smith. Rodger married Linda (Marsaglia) Smith on June 12, 1971.

He is a 1968 graduate of Virden High School. He received a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Bradley University in 1973 and was a member of 3 honorary engineering fraternities: Chi Epsilon, Sigma Tau and Tau Beta Pi.  He was a registered Professional Engineer in Illinois.  He began working at the Illinois Department of Transportation after high school and continued until his retirement in December 2004.  During this time, he worked as a Geometric Engineer, Project Engineer, Planning Engineer, Program Development Engineer, received the Engineer of the Year award in 1986 and retired as the Director of Highways.  In 2005, he began work at Hutchison Engineering, a private engineering consulting company based in Jacksonville.

He was an active member of the community, serving on boards and committees over the years, most recently serving as President of the Virden Cemetery Board.  He enjoyed family, friends, golf, and following his grandkids activities.

Surviving Rodger is his wife, Linda Smith of Virden, IL; son, Bradley A. (Sarah) Smith of Auburn, IL; daughter, Diana L. (Christopher) Hutchinson of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Braydon and Tyler Smith, Ryker and Lyric Hutchinson and several cousins.  Preceding Rodger in death is his parents.

Virden – Mary “Louise” Micklus, 96, of Springfield, IL formerly of Virden, IL passed away at 4:20 P.M. Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Heritage Health in Springfield, IL surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born February 10, 1922 in Virden, IL a daughter to George T. and Mary V. (Opremchek) Gaydos.  She married Thomas L. Micklus March 2, 1946 in Virden, IL.

Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Virden, IL and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church.  She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family.

Surviving Mary are her sons, Thomas G. (Mary) Micklus of Springfield, IL, and Arnold (Cherie) Micklus of Somerville, TX, daughter, Lanette Micklus Dunn of Springfield, IL, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death were her parents, husband, Thomas L. Micklus, sister, Leona Bilotta, brothers, Albert, John, Leonard, Ervin, George and Edward Gaydos.

Girard – Edward E. Ballinger, 96, of Girard, IL passed away at 9:57 PM Monday, October 15, 2018 at his residence in Girard, IL with his companion and friends at his side.

Edward was born in Virden, IL on May 3, 1922 a son to Harvey L. & Grace (Spencer) Ballinger.  He married Audrey D. Large on February 23, 1952 in Bloomington, IL, she precedes him in death.

Edward graduated from Waverly High School and enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Force in 1942 and served during WW II as a belly gunner on a B-17 and flew over 50 missions. He was a member of the Douglas Avenue Methodist Church, Springfield, IL and also of the American Legion Post #32, Springfield, IL for over 50 years.

Surviving Edward is his companion, Dorothy “Pat” Rutherford of Girard, IL and several nephews and cousins.  Preceding Edward in death are his parents; wife, Audrey D. Large; infant son, Gary W. Ballinger; brothers, Russell, Ronald and Kenneth Ballinger and sisters, Emma Burris and June Smith.

Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL, with the service at 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Virden-Robin M. Burtle, 53, of Virden, IL passed away at 5:15 P.M. Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Heritage Health Hospice Unit in Springfield, IL surrounded by her loving family.

Robin was born on May 8, 1965 in Quincy, IL a daughter to Willard Wayne and Sharon (Mulkey) Wilson.  She married Jeffrey Allyn Burtle on May 22, 2010 in Hettick, IL.

Robin was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Virden, IL.  She worked for the U.S. Postal Service and was Postmaster of the Jacksonville, IL Post Office where she retired in 2018.  Robin loved to fish and she loved the outdoors. She loved animals, especially her dog. When she was young, she once took a young pig and put it in her bed just to keep it warm.

Surviving Robin is her husband, Jeffrey Allyn Burtle of Virden, IL; her parents, Willard and Sharon Wilson of Virden, IL; daughter, Amanda S. Renner of Virden, IL; step son Allyn M. Burtle of Nilwood, IL; step daughters; Amy S. (Jenkins) Hampton of Girard, IL, Kari M. Burtle of FL; brother, Brian (Tamara) Wilson of Monticello, IL; 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild (born same day as she passed, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding Robin in death is her sister, Tonya Kay Wilson.

There will be no visitation, cremation rites have been accorded by the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL.  There will be a Celebration of Life Gathering at a later date.  The family has requested that memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
