Donald John Burris

Virden – Donald John Burris, 89 of Virden, IL, passed away Saturday August 17, 2019 at his residence.

Don was born in Virden, IL, a son of Paul E. and Margaret (Hall) Burris. He was a member of the First Baptist
Church in Virden, IL, and was a 1947 graduate of Virden High School. Don served in the U.S. Army stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He worked for over 38 years for the CUSD # 4 in maintenance and as a school bus driver. Don married Helen Anderson May 15, 1955 in Virden, IL.

Don is survived by his wife Helen of 64 years, a daughter, Peggy (William C.) Wilkinson of Helena, MT, a son, Lindell (Hilda M.) Burris of Girard, IL, grandchildren, Ryan and Eric Burris and Seth Peterson, a great Grandchild, Dorian Peterson, sister Paula (John) Sommer of Torrington, WY, two nieces and cousins. Preceding in death were his parents, Paul E. and Margaret Burris, and a granddaughter, Tracy Lynn Burris.

There will be no visitation, Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL is in charge of arrangements. Private Family Graveside Services were held at Virden Cemetery with Rev. John Parrish officiating. Virden– Robert “Pops” Heriford, 68, of Virden, IL passed away at 6:45 P.M. Monday, August 5, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was born May 12, 1951 in Columbia, MO a son to Robert Eugene and Donna June (Morgan) Heriford. Robert married Nancy L. Cain on August 1, 1998 in Virden, IL.

Bobby was a graduate of Hickman High School in Columbia, MO.  He attended the Virden Church of the Brethren.  Bobby loved camping, fishing, bowling and was a member of Hendricks Motor Sports.  He enjoyed cars and was always piddlin’ on his Model A.  He was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and his friends.

Surviving Bobby are his wife, Nancy L. Heriford of Virden, IL; step-mother, Jessie Heriford of MO; sons, Brian (Brandi) Chick of Centralia, MO, Jason (Amy) Heriford of Greenview, IL, Charles (Krystal) Heriford of Greenview, IL, James Heriford of Petersburg, IL, Brandon Heriford of Thayer, IL, Kyle Heriford of Virden, IL; daughters, Kirstianne (Chris) Heriford of Virden, IL, Brandy (Jake) Heriford of Franklin, IL; step-son, Samuel (Nita) Jorgensen of Thayer, IL; step-daughter, Valerie (Aaron) Harris of Virden, IL; brothers, Joe Heriford of MO, Christopher Ellis of MO, David (Brenda) Cottrell of MO; 18 grandchildren and numerous other family members.  Preceding him in death are his parents; 1 brother and 3 sisters.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, August 8, 2019 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home in Virden, IL with the Funeral Service on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Springfield – Joie M. Squires 36, of Springfield, IL passed away Tuesday July 30, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital Springfield, IL.

Joie was born December 15, 1982 in Springfield, IL, a daughter of James O. Squires and Deborah L. (Hiler) Wolfe. She graduated from Southeast High School in 2001. She worked at Springfield Clinic as a Certified Medical Assistant in the Cardiology Department.

Joie is survived by her daughter, Jayleigh N. Grafton, mother, Deborah L. Wolfe, step-father, Garrett Wolfe all of Springfield, IL, brother, Jason T. (Melissa) Wolfe of Taylorville, IL, sister, Jessica L. (Brandon) Leonard of New Holland, IL, grandfather, Harry O. Hiler and Grandmother, Judy Powell both of Springfield, IL, nephews, Bryan and Greyson Leonard and niece Raelyn G. Wolfe , several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and her two dogs, Jace Oliver and Penelope Grace. Preceding in death was her father, James O. Squires.

Auburn – Luaine Sue Jones, 70, of Auburn, IL, passed away Tuesday July 30, 2019 at her residence with her daughters at her bedside.

Luaine was born March 25, 1949 in Aurora, IL the daughter of Harold W. & Florence E. Smith Swanke. She graduated from Naperville High School in 1967 & from SIU-C in 1971 with a degree in journalism. She married Nathan E. Jones in January 1971; they divorced in 1989.

Since 1971 she has been employed at Gold Nugget Publications. Since 1991 she has been a part-time stagehand at Sangamon Auditorium working in the wardrobe department on touring productions. She served 10 years on the Springfield Muni Opera Board chairing various committees & working on numerous productions.

Luaine is survived by a son, Ethan Edwin Jones (Todd Smith) of Long Island City, NY; two daughters, Miranda Sue Jones of Virden, IL & Chelsea Elizabeth Jones of Springfield, IL; one brother, James W (Laurie) Swanke of Washington, IL; stepmother Joan Swanke of AZ & several nieces & nephews. Luaine was preceded by her mother & father.

There will be no visitation Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 3, 2019 at West Cemetery, Thayer, IL. Rev. Warren G. Lair

Virden – Warren G. Lair, 96 of Virden, IL, passed away Tuesday July 30, 2019 at Sunrise Nursing and Rehabilitation in Virden, IL.

Warren was born in Girard, Illinois on June 24, 1923 a son to Charles O. and Goldie (Molen) Lair.  He married Mary A. Goode May 28, 1948 in Girard, IL.

Warren joined the U.S. Army and served during WW II. He later worked for Pillsbury in Springfield, IL as a Maintenance Supervisor for over 37 years. He was a member of the Grace Southern Baptist Church, Virden, IL and was a member of the Virden American Legion Post #386.

Surviving Warren is his daughter, Barbara G. (David) Kett of Golden, CO, sons, John W. (Sandy) Lair of Hillsdale, IN, and Thomas C. “Tom” (Laura) Lair of Roselle, IL, 6 grandchildren, Mike (Samatha) Canfield, Mary (Greg) Todd, Amanda (Jared) Lair, Emma Kett, Dana and Cory Lair, 6 great grandchildren Nora Lair, Makayla Canfield, Lilly Canfield, Hannah Todd, Persephone McLeish and Graysen Todd.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary A. Lair; brothers; Lanny Lair and Danny Lair; and a sister, Norma Harvey.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday August 2, 2019 at Grace Southern Baptist Church Virden, IL, with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 3, 2019 at the church. Rev. Alice Mae Girdler, 81, of Virden died Sunday, July 28, 2019, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born February 5, 1938, in West Frankfort, IL the daughter of Lawrence and Violet Evans Griffith.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stan Girdler; brothers, Lawrence Griffith, DavidGriffith and grandson, Kyle Meisenheimer.

Surviving children: Vickie ( Scott) Lewis of Springfield; Ricky ( Dawn) Meisenheimerof Virden; Dawn ( Brian) Willoughby of Virden and step-son, Mitchell Girdler of Oregon.  Two brothers, Danny ( Judy) Griffith of Girard and DuWayne Griffith of Virden; two sisters, Ida Beane and Elizabeth Joplin, all of Virden, five grandchildren  and three great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Gathering will be  from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 3, 2019 at the New Life Family Church, 303 Clover Lane, Auburn, IL with the Rev. Larry Griffith and Rev. Auburn – Dale T. Mullen, 97, of Auburn, IL, passed away Thursday July 25, 2019 at his residence.

Dale was born February 4, 1922 in Modesto, IL, a son of Thomas and Agnes (Guthrie) Mullen. He married Betty L. Thompson July 5, 1941 in St. Charles, MO. Dale  worked as a sheet metal worker at Fiat-Allis in Springfield, IL, retiring after 37 years. Dale was a member of First Baptist Church in Virden, IL, the U.A.W. Union,  Local 1027 Retiree Club, Virden Senior Citizens and AARP. Valentine’s Day 2018 the Springfield Journal Register ran a cover story about Dale and Betty’s long love story. Some Dale and Betty’s favorite pastimes were dancing and roller skating.

Surviving Dale is his daughter Karen (Brian) Browning of Springfield, IL, son, Dale “Tom” (Pam) Mullen of Auburn, IL; 4 grandchildren, twins, Kyle and Matthew Browning, Rachel (Matt) Shonhart and Kenneth (Hillary) Browning, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Preceding in death was his wife Betty L. Mullen, daughters, Carolyn and Jo Ann Mullen, brothers, Chester, Alfred, Coy, Carl and Dean Mullen, sisters, Clara Mullen and Goldie Mullen, Pearl Rees, Mabel Woods, Eva Harvey and Velma Mullen.

Virden – Donald J. Enrietta, 91 of Virden, IL, passed away Tuesday June 18, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Don was born March 21, 1928 in Springfield, IL, a son of Paul and Regina (Sokach) Enrietta. He was a graduate of Virden High School Class of 1946 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a corporal. He married Bendena Osborne March 21, 1951 at Fort Leonardwood, MO. Don was a member of Sacred Heart Church Virden, IL, the Virden Rotary Club, the American Legion Post # 386 Virden, IL. and active in community affairs.

Don is survived by his wife, Bendena Enrietta of Virden, IL, a son Evan (Bobbi) Enrietta of Virden, IL, 3 step-grandchildren, Lyndasy and Josh Kenady and Kali (Nathan) Christison, 8 step-great grandchildren. Preceding in death were his parents, and a step-granddaughter Kira Kenady.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.n. Sunday June 23, 2019 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL, with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday June 24, 2019 at Sacred Heart Church. Virden – Henry A. Langheim, 98 of Virden, IL passed away Friday June 14, 2019 at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehab Virden, IL.

Henry was born August 25, 1920 in Watson Saskatchewan, Canada, a son to Henry and Elizabeth (Sommer) Langheim. He graduated from Virden High School in 1939. Henry was a WW II Army veteran serving in China, Burma and India Theater of operations and was awarded a Bronze Star. He Graduated from Millikin University in 1953 and worked in accounting until retiring in 1985. He married Lorene Finchom Osburn in 1968.

Henry is survived by, 6 step-grandchildren, 10 step-great grandchildren and 5 step-great great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Father Albert Langheim of Virden IL and Bernard (Patricia) Langheim of Salem VA, 1 sister-in-law,  Peggy Langheim of Virden, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were his parents, wife, Lorene Langheim, step-daughter, Trellis Johansen, step son, Gerald Nichols, seven brothers, Lawrence, Harold, Ernest, Paul, Francis, Pete, and Norman Langheim.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday June 22, 2019 at Sacred Heart Church Virden, IL, with a funeral mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Father James Palakudy officiating. Virden – Sharon M. Pfeiler-Bredendick, 74 of Virden, IL formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away  Wednesday June 12, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital Springfield, IL.

 

Sharon was born July 7, 1944 in Springfield, IL, a daughter of Edward H. and Dorothy Louise (Burch) Pfeiler. She married Otto Bredendick in Chicago, IL.

 

Surviving Sharon is a son, Otto Bredendick Jr. and a daughter Karen Bredendick, sisters, Debra Harlos of Carthage, MS, Patricia (Ray) Wheeler of Sesser, IL and Penny Maurer of New Berlin, IL, brothers, Raymond (Cheri) Pfeiler of Divernon, IL and Rick Pfeiler of Virden, IL, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were her parents, husband Otto Bredendick Sr., sisters, Clara Pfeiler and Susan Reyes, brothers, Edward and Fred Pfeiler.
