Donald John Burris

Virden – Donald John Burris, 89 of Virden, IL, passed away Saturday August 17, 2019 at his residence.

Don was born in Virden, IL, a son of Paul E. and Margaret (Hall) Burris. He was a member of the First Baptist
Church in Virden, IL, and was a 1947 graduate of Virden High School. Don served in the U.S. Army stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He worked for over 38 years for the CUSD # 4 in maintenance and as a school bus driver. Don married Helen Anderson May 15, 1955 in Virden, IL.

Don is survived by his wife Helen of 64 years, a daughter, Peggy (William C.) Wilkinson of Helena, MT, a son, Lindell (Hilda M.) Burris of Girard, IL, grandchildren, Ryan and Eric Burris and Seth Peterson, a great Grandchild, Dorian Peterson, sister Paula (John) Sommer of Torrington, WY, two nieces and cousins. Preceding in death were his parents, Paul E. and Margaret Burris, and a granddaughter, Tracy Lynn Burris.

There will be no visitation, Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL is in charge of arrangements. Private Family Graveside Services were held at Virden Cemetery with Rev. John Parrish officiating. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 157 W Jackson St, Virden, IL, or to Memorial Home Hospice Services, 236 E Union, Springfield, IL. Robert “Pops”  Heriford

Virden– Robert “Pops” Heriford, 68, of Virden, IL passed away at 6:45 P.M. Monday, August 5, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was born May 12, 1951 in Columbia, MO a son to Robert Eugene and Donna June (Morgan) Heriford. Robert married Nancy L. Cain on August 1, 1998 in Virden, IL.

Bobby was a graduate of Hickman High School in Columbia, MO.  He attended the Virden Church of the Brethren.  Bobby loved camping, fishing, bowling and was a member of Hendricks Motor Sports.  He enjoyed cars and was always piddlin’ on his Model A.  He was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and his friends.

Surviving Bobby are his wife, Nancy L. Heriford of Virden, IL; step-mother, Jessie Heriford of MO; sons, Brian (Brandi) Chick of Centralia, MO, Jason (Amy) Heriford of Greenview, IL, Charles (Krystal) Heriford of Greenview, IL, James Heriford of Petersburg, IL, Brandon Heriford of Thayer, IL, Kyle Heriford of Virden, IL; daughters, Kirstianne (Chris) Heriford of Virden, IL, Brandy (Jake) Heriford of Franklin, IL; step-son, Samuel (Nita) Jorgensen of Thayer, IL; step-daughter, Valerie (Aaron) Harris of Virden, IL; brothers, Joe Heriford of MO, Christopher Ellis of MO, David (Brenda) Cottrell of MO; 18 grandchildren and numerous other family members.  Preceding him in death are his parents; 1 brother and 3 sisters.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, August 8, 2019 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home in Virden, IL with the Funeral Service on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Springfield – Joie M. Squires 36, of Springfield, IL passed away Tuesday July 30, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital Springfield, IL.

Joie was born December 15, 1982 in Springfield, IL, a daughter of James O. Squires and Deborah L. (Hiler) Wolfe. She graduated from Southeast High School in 2001. She worked at Springfield Clinic as a Certified Medical Assistant in the Cardiology Department.

Joie is survived by her daughter, Jayleigh N. Grafton, mother, Deborah L. Wolfe, step-father, Garrett Wolfe all of Springfield, IL, brother, Jason T. (Melissa) Wolfe of Taylorville, IL, sister, Jessica L. (Brandon) Leonard of New Holland, IL, grandfather, Harry O. Hiler and Grandmother, Judy Powell both of Springfield, IL, nephews, Bryan and Greyson Leonard and niece Raelyn G. Wolfe , several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and her two dogs, Jace Oliver and Penelope Grace. Preceding in death was her father, James O. Squires.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday August 5, 2019 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL, with funeral services to follow at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Auburn – Luaine Sue Jones, 70, of Auburn, IL, passed away Tuesday July 30, 2019 at her residence with her daughters at her bedside.

Luaine was born March 25, 1949 in Aurora, IL the daughter of Harold W. & Florence E. Smith Swanke. She graduated from Naperville High School in 1967 & from SIU-C in 1971 with a degree in journalism. She married Nathan E. Jones in January 1971; they divorced in 1989.

Since 1971 she has been employed at Gold Nugget Publications. Since 1991 she has been a part-time stagehand at Sangamon Auditorium working in the wardrobe department on touring productions. She served 10 years on the Springfield Muni Opera Board chairing various committees & working on numerous productions.

Luaine is survived by a son, Ethan Edwin Jones (Todd Smith) of Long Island City, NY; two daughters, Miranda Sue Jones of Virden, IL & Chelsea Elizabeth Jones of Springfield, IL; one brother, James W (Laurie) Swanke of Washington, IL; stepmother Joan Swanke of AZ & several nieces & nephews. Luaine was preceded by her mother & father.

There will be no visitation Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 3, 2019 at West Cemetery, Thayer, IL. Rev.
