Jack Theo “Ted” Wise II

Springfield, IL-Jack Theo “Ted” Wise, 65 of Springfield, IL, passed away on Tuesday March 19, 2019 at his home.

Ted was born April 23, 1953 in Jacksonville, IL, the son of Jack Theo and Velma Snyder Wise. He married Karen Drake in December 1989 on a boat in Cancun and again (legally) in March 1990.

Ted was a 1971 graduate of Jacksonville High School and a 1975 graduate of Southern Illinois University with a degree in animal science. A talented football player and wrestler in high school, he was a member of the SIU Saluki Football Team playing nose guard and linebacker from 1971 – 1975 and was given the Harry Bobbitt Spirit Award. During his career, he worked as a hog farmer, pellet mill manager and then spent many years in sales of specialty animal feeds. Most recently he worked for Sacred Heart-Griffin HS and the New Berlin School District as a substitute teacher stating that 1stgrade was his most interesting assignment! Since 2002, Coach “Teddy” Wise was a beloved part of the Sacred Heart-Griffin football staff coaching the defensive line and assisting with strength training. He was a WWII and aviation history enthusiast, a committed and involved member of the First Church of the Brethren and enjoyed visiting his son in Florida and grandchildren in Texas whenever he could. He had recently started ballroom dance lessons with his wife and despite a lack of rhythm, truly believed he was a Fred Astaire in the making.

He was preceded in death by his father Jack Wise. He is survived by his mother Velma Wise, wife Karen Drake Wise, son Jack Wise III (Mabely), sister Mary Todd Kaercher (Carl) and their two sons Mark Kritz (Migena) and Joseph Kaercher (Toni), stepdaughter Jennifer Slightom-Jones (Bryan), grandchildren Corrigan & Zoë Jones, and additional nephews, nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews who all loved Uncle Ted.

Cremation rites have been accorded by Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday March 23, 2019 at Sacred Heart Griffin West Campus Gymnasium Springfield, IL. Rev. Dr. Bobbi Dykma officiating. Clara E. Frye

Carlinville– Clara E. Frye, 97 of Carlinville, IL, formerly of Lowder, IL, passed away Tuesday March 5, 2019 at Heritage Health in Carlinville, IL, surrounded by her loving family.

Clara was born February 9, 1922 in Corinth, MS, a daughter of Walter and Nancy (Sowders) Kidd. She married Paul Frye June 21, 1942 in Hackett, AL. Clara was the Postmaster for Lowder, IL, retiring after 44 years of service in 1999. She was a former member of the Talkington Twp. Volunteer Fire Department and the Macoupin County Farm Bureau. She was a loving grandmother, great grandmother and great great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by all.

Clara is survived by her granddaughter, Nicki (fiancé: James Wilson) Palmer of Carlinville, IL, great grandsons, Sean and Anthony Bellm and Curtis Wilson, great great-grandsons, Brody and Eli Bellm, a son-in-law, James Palmer and a nephew Robert Kidd. Preceding in death were her parents, husband, Paul Frye, a daughter, Nancy Frye and a brother, Charles Kidd.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to Noon Monday March 11, 2019 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL, with funeral services to follow at Noon at the funeral home. Rev. Mark Doane officiating. Pallbearers: James Palmer, James Wilson, Curtis Wilson and Sean Bellm. Burial will be in West Cemetery Thayer, IL. Memorials may be made to, Patterson House 1221 S. Plum St. Carlinville, IL. Virden– Pearl M. Harrison 78, of Virden, IL, passed away Saturday March 2, 2019 at Heritage Health Care Springfield, IL, surrounded by her loving family.

Pearl was born January 10, 1941 in Vandalia, IL, a daughter of Jerry T. and Ruby P. (McDowell) Harrison. She married LaRue Scales of Chillicothe, IL December 28th, 1957 and they later divorced.  She was a licensed Day Care Provider for over 32 years retiring in May 2012 and a member of the First Presbyterian Church Virden, IL.  Pearl enjoyed sewing; quilting, whom she made and gave away to many; bowling on the Wednesday Nite Ladies league and was a member of the Women’s International Bowling Congress (WIBC) as well as  spending time with family, friends and her extended daycare families she loved and cared for as her own.

Pearl is survived by her daughter, Kelly L. (Vince) Pitchford of Virden, IL, sons, Kevin L. (Tracy) Scales of Riverton, IL, and Wesley E. (Jennifer) Scales of Riverton, IL, and Richard D.(fiancé: Carri Matheney)  “Rich” Scales of Virden, IL, 7 grandchildren, Kaleb and Koby Pitchford, Tori, Alleigh and, Reese Scales, Lerin and Ryan Hughes, 3 great grandchildren, a brother, Earl R. (Myra) Harrison of Hillsboro, OH, an aunt, Pricella McDowell of Bingham, IL, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were her parents, sister, Evelyn “Judy” Harrison. and a brother, Darrell Harrison.
