Springfield – Beverly J. Hiler, 80 of Springfield, IL, formerly of Virden, IL, passed away Wednesday April 25, 2018 at Heritage Manor Hospice in Springfield, IL.

Bev was born December 7, 1937 in Virden, IL a daughter of Jack and Ruth Love. She married Harry O. Hiler February 22, 1957 in Chicago, IL. Bev was a 1955 graduate of Virden High School and worked for many years as an administrative assistant for the Salvation Army in Springfield, IL.

Bev is survived by her husband, Harry O. Hiler of Springfield, IL, daughters, Denise M. Brannan and Deborah L. Wolfe both of Springfield, IL, a son, Edward A. (Vicki) Hiler of Humansville, MO, 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday April 29, 2018 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL, funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Lt. Tim Thorson and Lt. Decatur – Debra L. Gremo, 60 of Decatur, IL, formerly of Virden, IL, passed away Tuesday April 24, 2018 at Barnes Jewish Hospital St. Louis, MO.

Debra was born June 9, 1957 in Springfield, IL, a daughter of William and Dorothy (Dallas) Delich. She was a 1975 graduate of Virden High School, member of Student Council, Rainbow, Girl Scouts, National Honor Society & the band. Debra married Michael F. Gremo July 10, 1984 in Decatur, IL. She worked as an office manager for DOVE Inc. in Decatur, IL. Debra was a member of St. James Catholic church in Decatur, IL, and donated to many charities. She was a giving soul and put everyone else first. Debra loved spending time with her family and friends.

Debra is survived by her husband, Michael F. Gremo of Decatur, IL, daughters, Amy L. (Brad) Lakamp of Chapin, IL, and Erika L. (Chad) McCready of Virden, IL, sons, Sean D. (companion: Amanda L. Roberts) Gremo of Decatur, IL, and Matthew D. (companion: Deborah A. Rapson) Gremo of Decatur, IL, 6 grandchildren; Julia, Logan and Cade McCready, Jacob, Carter and Chance Lakamp, mother, Dorothy Delich of Auburn, IL, sisters, Cherilyn (James) Delich-Gates of Tucson, AZ, Patti Delich of Chatham, IL, Lisa (Barry) Delich-Liss of Virden, IL and Angela (David) Boston of Auburn, IL, brothers, John (Eileen) Delich of Springfield, IL, and William Delich of Virden, IL, sister-in-law, Paulette Delich of Mesa, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding death was her father, William Delich, brother, Clayton Delich and niece, Stephanie Strukely-Royer.

Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be a Celebration of Life Gathering Wednesday May 2, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL with a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. Thursday May 3, 2018 at Sacred Heart Church Virden, IL. Mary Ellen Bandy

Mary Ellen Bandy, 93, of Girard, IL, died Tuesday, April 24. 2018.

Mary Ellen was born May 3, 1924 in Beardstown, the daughter of Frank W. Wilson and Mayme Lewis Wilson.  She married James A. Bandy in October of 1945.

She was a graduate of Beardstown High School class of 1942 and recently attended her 75thclass reunion.  She and Jim managed the Taber Funeral Home in Hindsboro (1960-1967) and Berry Funeral Home in Girard (1967-1985).  She worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses and retired from the Otter Lake Water Commission in Girard.

Mary Ellen was a member of the Girard United Methodist Church for over fifty-eight years.  She will always be known for her kindness, generosity, and faith which she instilled in her family.  Mary Ellen volunteered for the American Red Cross where she traveled to locations where disaster relief was needed.  She also participated in various activities in support of the Cunningham Children’s home. Mary Ellen was active until her death.  She continued to take care of herself, which included driving, and she was known as an exceptional bridge player. She was an avid Cubs fan and was able to see a rooftop game for her 90thbirthday and also see them win the World Series.

Surviving are her two sons, James W. (Connie) Bandy of Auburn, IL, Timothy R. Bandy of Girard, IL, two grandsons, Chad D. (Kimberly) Bandy of Round Hill, VA and Chet D. (Shannon) Bandy of Bloomington, IL; six great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Roy D. Moore.  She was preceded in death by her husband James A. Bandy Jr. in 1992, an infant son, John, and her sister Almeda Wilson Moore.

Visitation will be held from 10 am to 11:30 am on Saturday, April 28 at Girard United Methodist Church followed by funeral service with the Revs. Mark Doane and Mary Alice Cunningham.  Private graveside services will be held at Beardstown City Cemetery Beardstown, IL.  Pallbearers:  Chad Bandy, Chet Bandy, Colton Bandy, Terry Moore, Bob Moore and Greg Moore with Honorary Pallbearer, Roy Moore.  Memorials can be made to Girard United Methodist Church. Girard – Clifford E. Smith, 78 of Girard, IL, passed away Monday April 16, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center Springfield, IL surrounded by his loving family.

Cliff was born November 26, 1939 in Girard, IL a son of George and Beaulah Kellem Smith. He was a graduate of Girard High School in Girard, IL, and married Marcia K. Hart November 26, 1957 in Ft. Madison, IA. Cliff formerly owned and operated Girard Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge Auto dealership and CSC Motor Co. in Girard, IL. He and his daughter Sheila raised and showed American Quarter Horses. Cliff was a Die-Hard Cub fan and enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family and friends.

Cliff is survived by his wife, Marcia K. Smith of Girard, IL, a daughter, Sheila K. (Gary) Hoskins of Girard, IL, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sisters, Doris Johnson of Harvel, IL, and Sharon (Gary) Sumpter of Petersburg, IL, a brother, Gary (Glenda) Smith of Girard, IL, several nieces and nephews and his faithful and loving dog, Ellie.Preceding in death were his parents, sons, Scott and Barry Smith;  brothers, Ronald and Ed Smith and sister, Eva Rucker.

Girard – Timothy W. Royer, 59 of Girard, IL, passed away Wednesday April 4, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Tim was born November 2, 1958 in Carlinville, IL the son of Lester and Grace (VanWinkle) Royer. He graduated from Girard High School in 1977. Tim married Joan M. Strawkas December 8, 1984 in Virden, IL. He was a member of the Virden Church of The Brethren Virden, IL, a member of the Macoupin County Farm Bureau and farmed his whole life. He was an avid bowler in years past and was a Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed most all sports and spending time with his family and friends.

Tim is survived by his wife, Joan Royer of Girard, IL, sons, Timothy Jerad Royer of Girard, IL and Justin Lee (Miranda) Royer of Murray, Utah, 4 grandchildren, Andelynn Rain Bott, Tenley Grace Royer, Aleena Rae Royer and Oliver Justin Royer, mother, Grace Royer of Virden, IL, sister, Jean Ann (Kenny) Tate of Girard, IL, brothers, William Royer of Girard, IL and Robert (Patti) Royer of Carrollton, IL, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Virden – Edwin L. Wallace, 90 of Virden, IL, passed away Tuesday April 3, 2018 at Pleasant Hill Village Girard, IL.

Edwin was born March 12, 1928 in Auburn, IL, a son Walter E. and Bertha M. (Peebles) Wallace. He graduated from Girard High School in 1946. He was an Army Veteran and was a member of the Virden Church of the Brethren. Edwin was fourth of six generations to farm at the family sesquicentennial farm. He was active in the Macoupin County 4 H where he was a former leader. Edwin was a member of the Macoupin County Farm Bureau, was a DeKalb Seed Corn dealer for over 34 years and a past Precinct Committeeman and former member of the Macoupin County Regional School Board.  Edwin was a DeKalb Seed Corn dealer for over 34 years.

Edwin is survived by his wife Elinor L. Wallace of Virden, IL, a daughter, Christine A. (Brad) Smith of Jacksonville, IL, sons, Walter L. Wallace of Girard, IL, and Sam W. (Joyce) Wallace of Girard, IL, 7 grandchildren, Adam Wallace, Stacey (David) Reagon, Jodelle (Jo) Tavine, Kendra Wright, Ashley (Nolan) Swanlund, Ellinor Smith and Jennifer Smith, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Virden – Marie Devantier, 90, of Virden, IL, passed away Monday April 2, 2018 at Heritage Hospice in Springfield, IL surrounded by her loving family.

Marie was born October 15, 1927 in Tallula, IL, a daughter of Frank and Susie (Murrell) Jones. She married Rolland W. Devantier February 1, 1947 in Springfield, IL. Marie was a homemaker and she helped with the farming.  She loved her family, bingo, camping, her winter trips to Texas with her loving husband. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, IL, and a member of the Virden American Legion Auxiliary in Virden, IL.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Gale J. (Robert) Lynch of Girard, IL, son, Steve W. (Mona) Devantier of Girard, IL; Son-In-Law, Ron (Margie) Hart of Springfield, IL, 5 grandchildren, Kelly Devantier, Amanda Devantier, Bethany Hart-Marsaglia, Christopher (Brandi) Lynch and Susan (Eric) Rutherford, 10 great grandchildren several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were her parents, husband Rolland W. Devantier, daughter, Alinda Hart and a grandson, David Hart, sisters, Ruby Ladage, Mae Rieser and brothers, Henry and Howard Jones.
